Has anyone ever purchased tickets from ebay???

Yes, a guy I work with (against my advice) bought 5-day hoppers off Ebay. When he got them, he came & showed them to me and said "how do I know how many days are left on them"?. That's the point, you don't know how many days are left on them! When I looked at them, they have Simba & Rafiki on them. They were from 1998! You mean to tell me that in 8 years, that Ebay seller didn't know anybody going to WDW that they could have sold the tix to?

Needless to say, the passes had 2 days on them and he had to end up buying more tix at WDW. :guilty:

Don't buy tix off ebay!

Thank you so much. Just wondering if it was a good idea glad i asked because i would have been upset if i were taken like that. I will stick with the way i know!

I was wondering how safe it was and whether or not you received what you purchased.

Don't do it. It is NOT safe. You MIGHT get someone honest who is selling you what they claim to be selling you, but it's just as likely that the person is a scam artist and/or is selling you something you cannot use (such as a ticket tied to THEIR finger scan/name, etc.). DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! The only way I would ever accept a ticket from someone else is if it were a family member or close friend and a completely unused ticket. There is simply no way to be sure. You cannot check the "balance" by phone. Only at a park gate, and by then it's too late! :guilty:

I believe it is also against WDW policy to resell unused tickets, but I don't know the particulars.

Another vote against buying tickets off Ebay. NOT a good idea.

I did it when it was just my husband and me. I would not trust it anymore.

NEVER! A long time Diser did this and the tickets had NO days on them!!!

I sold three 5-day Hoppers through Ebay just before MYW took effect (dumb me!). Those tix were legit and the person I sold them to got no surprises when he flew all the way from the UK to WDW.

I have also purchased 3-day Hoppers on Ebay from a legitimate seller. I also had no surprises when I got to the gate.

IF you decide to buy on Ebay, the key is to buy from someone with high positive feedback, particularly someone who lists and sells a large amount of tix on a regular basis (my Ebay seller was a travel agent). Do NOT bid on or trust auctions for used tickets, i.e., "days leftover, etc., " because, it's true, you never do know what you'll get.

I understand not wanting to take a chance, but there are some honest Disney ticket sellers out there.

A big no, especially with the new ticket system, as once used at all, the ticket is matched, with the finger scan, to the person who used it.

There may be honest Ebay sellers out there, but with the finger scan I think you're running an even greater risk than before. If the tickets have been used and the 'finger scan' is someone else's you have no ticket and no recourse.

Sorry, Dan. We must have posted at the same time.

I believe I said that you should not consider purchasing used tickets on Ebay as you will not know what you get. I neglected to mention the finger scan situation as well. There are legitimate tickets to be bought on Ebay.

I just purchased tix from an online ticket broker. How do I now these are legit? Because other people have purchased from this seller and have good things to say. Same goes for Ebay. Do your research, be smart, and you just might get a great deal.

The problem is, you can't tell if the ticket is used until YOU use it. I'm sure there are honest sellers out there, but how do I know if mine's honest until I try to use the ticket.

I don't quite agree with the idea that just because someone is a Power Seller or has a high rating, they're honest. I've purchased products off of Ebay that were from sellers that have very high ratings. But the product I purchased was not as the seller promoted it. Upon reading the individual ratings, I found many people said the same thing. The product was a good one, worth keeping, but definitely not as the seller said it was.

People tend to leave good feedback so that THEY GET good feedback. I just wouldn't trust buying Disney tickets on Ebay. Your milage may vary. :)

There are honest people in the world, you just need to make sure to check on things.I am heartbroken about the trip and will feel even worse if I lose over $100 on the tickets. :sad2: I hope people will read my feedback and ask questions before bidding.

Don't do it.

Tickets are not meant to transfer hands - so you really shouldn't be using them, the CM's would be well within their rights to eject you from the park.

People AREN'T trustworthy, you'd probably end up with empty tickets.

Just pay up! It won't kill you to pay full price, the price EVERYBODY has to pay, to enjoy Disney. I wouldn't say it was the same as theft, but you're getting something for less than you should and it's against Disney rules!

That's a little different... most of the tickets sold on ebay will have already been used, having just a few days left on them.

I would probably buy some tickets from someone like you because they've never been used before and are for a specific date IYKWIM?

They'll probably reach about what they would had they been bought from the parks, so sorry you had to cancel your trip, at least you won't lose out on too much money this way :(

I am not for one moment saying anyone posting on this thread is dishonest, but please bear in mind even other DIS-ers have mislead their fellow posters in the past.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I am certainly not saying that is the case with anyone posting now, I am only saying it has happened, several times, that someone was trusted simply because they were a fellow DIS-er, and they turned out to be a scam.

Anyone can sell or purchase tickets on Ebay. It isn't illegal (though Disney, obviously, discourage it). However, it has proven time and again to be a very risky proposition. I cannot tell you how many threads I have read over the years here on the DIS with tales of anger and sadness when people bought what they thought were usable Disney tickets on Ebay, but were unable to use them at the gate.

It's not worth it, in my opinion, to take the risk. Everyone has to decide for themselves, but it does help to have real-life experiences to aid in making a sound decision.

I've sold unused tickets on ebay but I wouldn't buy any from ebay.

The reason is those WDW tix go for almost face value...sometimes they go for more! I can't see taking the risk for a $5 difference. If I could save 40% on a ticket, I might consider it, but for 5 bucks or so...no way.

Actually, under Florida law, theme park tickets are NONTRANSFERRABLE. That is, once the ticket has been used, it may ONLY be used by the same person who originally used the ticket. I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV but somewhere in there I have a feeling something illegal is going on, maybe not in the sale itself but once the buyer uses the partially used ticket they are engaging in an illegal activity.

Something about it does seem illegal, even if the tickets have never been used (and still have that "new ticket" crispness ;) ).

Besides, I'm not sure I'd trust ANYONE who would sell their tickets to WALT DISNEY WORLD!! :rotfl:
