Has anyone ever purchased points from TTS?

Has anyone ever purchased reservation or rented DVC resort stay points from The Timeshare Store? If so, can you share how the process works? DVC doesn't mind this? When the points go in are they listed under your membership or the other person's? How is the transfer accomplished? Can you use those points to book online at 7 or 11 months easily? Any negatives about using them or going through this process? Aside from spending $$ on them I mean. I get their emails and was not sure how this works.

Thanks! :)

ETA: I know you have to call MS to book with reservation points but was wondering if the regular resort points were transferred into your membership or not.

I discussed this with a friend and obviously I'm so confused! Anyone know how this process works?

I believe TSS offers two different services, point rental or transfers for sale.

If you rent from them, they retain control of the reservation until you check in. If you get a transfer of points, they'll be deposited into your account and you can do anything you want with them.

If you get a transfer of points into your account you will usually not see the points appear in your account so you cannot use them to book online. You will have to call MS to use them to book a stay. You can use them to book 11 months out at the transferred points' home resort. For example, if you receive a transfer of BLT points you can use them to book BLT 11 months out. If you wanted to book BCV with those transferred BLT points you would have to wait until 7 months out.

The only time you will see transferred points in your account is if the points transferred in are the same resort and UY as your own contract. In that case only, the points can just be added into your account. Otherwise they have to be tracked separately since they are not an exact match for points you already own.

Also it was my understanding that it is strictly against Disney rules to provide compensation for transferring of points. Do they enforce this? i.e. if 2 members call up MS together on a 3-way-call and say "person A is buying points from me and I need to transfer the points into their account" - will the MS rep say - no you can't do that?

Yes, I have heard that if the CM on the phone knows there is an exchange of money, they won't complete the transfer.

The one time I did a transfer to someone else, I simply said I wanted to transfer, they asked for the information they needed, and did it for me, very pleasantly. I didn't mention money and they did not ask.

I have wondered, though, with TSS mentioning they are facilitating transfers that involve an exchange of money, why they are not worried about Disney and their reaction....

So do these transactions require a 3 way conversation usually? I'm confused as to how the transfers work.

We recently rented some points from TSS for a weekend getaway to AKV to see if we wanted to buy there. It was a painless process. We told them where and when we wanted to stay, they told us what was available. They had the owner make the reservation in our name. Once completed they sent us the info and we verified it on MDE. As soon as we verified it we sent the cost for the points via paypal. We had no issues what so ever.

edit: All communication on our end was with TSS.

Did you pay for the whole stay upfront right away?

It depends on how early you book it. Ours was a very short notice booking so we paid once we verified the reservation. We had paypaled the money to TSS, not the owner. They released the money after we verified our room was good. I "think" they hold half the payment (or all of it) until you are able to check in. Best thing is to just call them and they can describe the entire process to you over the phone. I would do it again through them.

Thanks for the info ! :)

have rented & transferred but not with TTS. both easy, seamless processes. renting was easy & enjoyed 2 stays with 2 renters with no issues. also, had points transfer. easy process. since points were different resort (same UY), I don't have online availability to book. have to call MS to book reservation. only issue that could arise is you wanting to book something in "high demand" when MS is closed.

Can you request rented points be transferred vs waiting on someone else to book for you?

When I did the transfer, I was the only one on the phone with MS. It did not require a 3 way call. I just gave them the information from the other member and that was enough.
