I'm 32 wks along and was diagnossed with a PE (pulmonary embolism) 3 wks ago. I spent four days in the hospital and then they sent me home with lovenox shots that my DH gives me once a day. Here' my question, Has anyone else expeianced this? My OB as wonderful as he is has never dealt with this neither has anyone in the medical center in our town. I'm in the process of trying to get them to refer me to a high risk OB at mayo clinic which is only 35 minutes from where I live. I'm just wondering if anyone could share thier experiances with me. I've done many searches online and most do not say much about what goes on in labor and most that I've found do not end well. Needless to say I am quite nervous. So, if anyone has information or words of wisdom, i'm all ears!

I am sorry this has happened. ITA with you and that you should be seeing a perinatologist for evaluation, especially, since there is one so close to you.

One of the things about being on lovenox is that if you are on it when you go into labor you cannot have an epidural if you've had your lovenox dose within a certain time period. Therefore, a lot of women will be transitioned to heparin at that time because heparin doesn't last as long in the body. I was on heparin injections with DS13 and lovenox injections with DS8 due to a blood clotting disorder that I have when I am pregnant.

Did your OB do blood tests to evaluate if you have any blood clotting disorders? There are many that can be done.

I'm not sure of all the blood test i've taken and one of my problems is one person is telling me one thing the next another thing and the next something totally different. On top of that the hospital staff continues to fight over where to put me when I come in and I can't breath. So no one can tell my husband and I what to do or where to go when this happens. The women's unit all but threw me out the other day when I was having so much trouble breathing that I thought I was going to pass out in the wheelchair. Good news is I have an appt. with a high risk ob at mayo next week, so we are hoping to get some straight answers. I am just very worried about labor and not being able to breath.

I'm glad to hear that you got an appointment with the high-risk OB. Try and get copies of your bloodwork from the hospital before you go so he'll have it to review. You'll need to request it in writing and pick up in person at this point. Start writing down your questions now so you won't forget when you are there.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I'm a former high risk pregnant lady as well as 15 yrs high risk L&D nurse.

I don't have any advice, just a  . This sounds so scary, but it's good you'll be seeing a specialist soon. Keep us updated!
