We are looking at doing some home improvement type stuff later this year and one change I would like to make is to add a jetted tub to our master bathroom.

I have not done any research yet but I thought I might ask here if anyone has done this and about how much it cost? Just looking to get some ballpark figures that might convince me to a) forget about it because it will be too expensive or b) start doing a little research because it might not be too bad. :p

If you enjoy taking baths they are definately worth the cost!

The basic 5 foot "replacement" tubs start at about $300-$400 and go up depending on the features you want. More jets = more money... higher horsepower pumps = more money... adjustable controls... fancy faucets... you get the picture. :)

Other things to consider when adding a "jacuzzi" tub: You'll need to run an additional power circuit to run the pump. If you get an oversize tub, you may need to reinforce the floor joists to handle the added weight, and your hot water heater may not have the capacity to fill it up!

Good luck!

We checked into it a few years ago when we added a bathroom in our basement and decided against it because of the cost involved in the location we wanted to put it. The tub itself was not that expensive. The cost of the plumber and electrician, if I remember correctly was more then the tub itself. There were some complications with the electrical and we would have to get a bigger water heater to fill the one we were looking at. We decided to put in a regular tub and purchased a small hot tub for our sun room instead. It worked better in the space we had. Dh is a big guy and the hottub allows him to stretch out. The space we had for the tub didn't allow for one big enough for him to lie down in it.

We have done it 2x now, once in our old house, and once when we added the bathroom to our downstairs here in our new house. Actually, I should say DH has done it 2x, Ive just sort of watched and said "is it done yet?"
If you have any specific questions about the installation, just ask and Ill ask DH. He did them both by himself, so he should have some answers.
