has anyone ever had an elbow that locks up

and when you try to undo it ....it snaps and then hurts for a while.....my granddaughters elbow has been doing this for a while and she is being referred to an orthopedic specialist......she is an avid soccer...basketball and track player......so hope it is minor......

I had a knee that locked on and off. I ended up with arthroscopic surgery to remove a "loose" piece of cartilage. Sounds like she may have a sports injury. Good luck!

What do you mean by locks up?
I occassionally (sp?) get where I need to really pop that elbow and it hurts extremely bad when I finally get it to pop. I mean it does HURT. But I don't think that's what you're talking about...especially since I got this condition from a dislocated elbow injury...

hopefully it's nothing too bad. Elbow injuries are nasty! My elbow dislocated was almost a year ago and I had rehab and everything...it still bothers me to this day.

But I'm not familiar with the term "lock up."

BTW - I know "pop" and "locks up" are completely different, but in my opinion, when I need to "pop" it feels like my arm is "locked" or whatever...

Mine does that from time to time, but I have never seen the doctor about it. (Since the rest of my body is falling apart I thought my elbow must be like the rest of me.)

Hope they have a good answer for her that doesn't involve surgery or anything like that.

I have that happen once in a while, like when I carry a large stack of reports from our mail room to my office. My left elbow will lock and then not want to go straight again. It always has and it pops back in to place. I've never had enough pain or concern to see a doctor about it. Could be your GD is young and they want to rule out any potential bone problems. It won't do any harm to have her checked.

Yes, my left one does that. I fell when I was 8 yo and chipped my bone. I couldn't move my arm for about 6 weeks or so. I've had a few problems with it ever since. My left knee does the same thing (I didn't chip it, but I did fall on it too-I'm a clutz).
