had to switch doctors? My and DH want to get pregnant with baby #2. He is going to be transfered soon so we will be moving to another state. The thing is we dont know exactly when. We have already waited 4 years in between kids and dont want to wait anymore..

has anyone ever switched doctors mid pregnancy??

Sure did. I switched docs when we moved to Richmond and I was 35.5 weeks pregnant. :scared1: Definitely doable!

I remember it being an insurance nightmare. Not sure this is still the case because at the time (5 years ago) a lot of places did the global pregnancy charge. Where you don't do your copay/billing at every visit, they submit everything at the end after you give birth. It was kind of complicated, but it all worked out.

Hi there. I just had to do this with my DS 1 1/2 as my midwife moved 1/2 way through my pregnancy. I was pretty bummed but all was well. BTW, my kids are 5 years apart and I love it. Good luck!

Yes we moved half way across the country when I was 7 1/2 months. What I did do was as soon as I knew we were moving was start looking for an office that would accept me, even before we looked for a place to live. I then hand carried my records to the new DR. when we physically moved there 6 weeks later. I wanted everything in place (including my records) if there was a problem on the way or as soon as I got to the new state.

When I was looking for a new office After finding places that would take a patient so far along I then looked for offices with smaller amounts of DR's because I didn't want to see 5 different DR's for my last visits and then have a 6th totally never met DR. deliver me if it could be helped. I found an office with only 3 and met all 3 in visits before delivery so I would at least have met them face to face before................

I changed doctors when I was 4 months pregnant with our first child. What you want in a gyno (quick and to the point) was not working for me as a pregnant woman. I had a lot of questions and I didn't like how I was treated. I loved the doctor I ended up chosing and it was fine.

I did it at 4m pregnant w/ my last one. Then when i got to the new clinic they switched me constantly between midwives and docs. I think I met everyone in the clinic b4 I delivered...LOL. But, they were all great and I would deff want to deliver w/ them again. Just remember to get a copy of your medical records to take to your new doctors office.

We switched during my 2nd trimester. We didn't switch clinics, just the OB. I needed to get my appendex out when I was at 14 weeks with the twins and it was quite a scare. My 1st OB did not handle it in a way that DH and I felt comfortable with. Afterward we switched to a different OB and it worked out fine.
Good luck !

I had to switch doctors when I was 7-1/2 months pregnant due to my husband's work changing insurance carriers and my doctor was not on the plan. We thought it would be a pre-existing condition, but it was not seen that way and I had to switch.

Anyhow, my doc made a referral to another doc (I am sure both being in the same city is easier than moving out of state), but your doc may know someone in that area that he/she would refer you to. If you find your own doc in the new location, have your doc correspond with the other doctor. That way your transfer of care should go smoother.

thanks everyone I guess I am a worrier and didnt know what to do...everyone here made me feel a lot better. thanks!!!

I had to switch with my second child, but it was local. The best advice I got was to go to the hospital that you will be delivering at and go to the L&D ward and talk to the nurses. They will know who's good and who to stay away from.

I have been in that exact situation. We waited 4 years in between. DH was offered a job out of state with very little notice, like 2 weeks. I was just starting my 2nd trimester when we moved. I actually liked the new doctor/clinic better then my old one. If you have an idea of where you'll be moving to try and do some research now on which the better dr/clinics are in the area.Oh and make sure you get a copy of your medical records before you move and sign consent forms. (It took forever for my old clinic to send them down!).

We moved when I was about 3 months pregnant so I got a new doctor at about 4 months. It wasn't a big deal at all.

I did it twice with my twins. The first was at 12 weeks because the doctor told me that he would automatically put me on bedrest at 24 weeks regardless of my health because it was a twin pregnancy. The second was at 28 weeks because the office was too disorganized--I would literally wait two hours in an exam room for a five minute appointment. I ended up loving where I switched to, a university hospital where they didn't treat me like a freak because I was pregnant with twins.

If they have your records, it's not a big deal at all. You just have to be comfortable.

We're TTC right now, even though we know we'll be moving in April to northern CA. Then, 9 months later, we get to move again, either back here to Ft. Meade or up to Alaska. The life of a military family.. I know many women who have moved during pregnancy and didn't have any issue finding a doc. Best of luck to you :)

This is so great! Everyone is making me see it is not a big deal. Right now we dont know where we ae going. Maybe NY maybe Hawaii. The only thing I was worried about was I had a c section with DD so I would most likely have to have another one next time too.

I switched DR's when I was 28 weeks with my DS. I NEVER saw the same person twice when I was in the office. Started looking around and found a Dr. who I lived closer to and felt comfy with. :) I ended up having a C-section because DS was breech.
I'm due in 5 weeks with DD, but using a different DR for her. As long as the new Dr. has your records, everything should be fine. I wish now I would have known about the Dr I'm using for DD when I had DS. He's awesome! Just ask to meet with the Dr. before you settle on someone. Most offices won't charge you for a meet and greet. :) Good luck!

Wow, people actually get to see one doc every time normally? When I was pregnant with my angel baby, I saw 4 different docs, one each time I went to the doc. The U/S technician was the same each time, but not the doc lol.

Yup, that! I have switched mid pregnancy with both kiddos. It is not that big a deal as long as you can find a doc and get your records. The first time I was 7.5 months along and switched to an OB from a midwife for health reasons and the last time, we moved when I was 4 months along. I started calling to find a doc as soon as I found out where we were going to be living and then made my appointment for the earliest available.

Our kids are 4 years 2 months apart and it is GREAT!!! Good luck!

I saw doctor #1, practice #1 for 6 months until he told me the insurance premiums were getting too large so he was dropping the OB portion of his practice, so he was switching me to doctor #2, practice #2. Saw doctor #2. One week before my second appt with doctor #2, he gets into a serious car accident and I am now scheduled to see doctor #3, still practice #2. Two days before my appt with doctor #3, practice #2, HE RETIRES!!! I'm told to come in and get my records, as I will now be seeing doctor#4, practice #3. Doctor #4 was very nice and did deliver my baby. Needless to say, it was unwanted stress at the time, but everything worked out just fine.
