Take you to the Tulum ruins and back?My DH wants to see the Ruins really bad but I dont want to spend all day on a tour and i thought if we could get a taxi ourselves it would be better.I know we would have to take the ferry to Playa Del Carman and the find a driver. Is this not really a good idea or have you done this? Please help me:teeth: .

Thanks,
Misty

But it will probably still take a good chunk of the day to go to Tulum, on your own, or not. Getting to the ferry, ferrying over, finding a taxi, ride to Tulum, walk around, find another taxi back, etc, etc. The one thing good about taking the tour is that the fare is set in stone. If you go yourselves, you may need to dicker for taxi fares and could really get ripped off. Especially going that distance. You also have to realize that you will be going to the mainland and that the chances of you not getting back in time to the ship increase. We were on a cruise that had an excursion to Chiczen Itza (sp?) and the water got so rough, the Ferrys stopped running for a couple of hours. Our ship waited in port for over 6 hours for the tour to return. If you run into that problem while not on a ships excursion, you'll be flying to Orlando! With that being said, we have booked private excursions for this up coming cruise, but are sure that we have plenty of time to get back to the ship, even if we have to walk!

It'll still take a lot of time - especially doing it on your own since the excursions go first off the ship to the ferry. You would be risking missing the boat if there was a problem with the taxi or the ferry. I've done the ruins and really there just wasn't enough time there - I would've liked another hour, but the excursion plays it pretty close anyway. The travelling to and fro takes a big chunk of the time. I'd highly recommend just doing the DCL excursion.

Trishy if you had the oppurtunity to do it again,Would you?
I was thinking of the jeep tour,Have you done this excursion?

The Tulum Ruins tour. As previous posters have stated, getting there involves taking a ferry to the mainland and a fairly lengthy trip to the site. I'd definitely use a tourguide with transportation for this trip rather than trying to do it on my own. (And I usually prefer not to go on group excursions.)

Could you suggest a good tour that we get to see some ruins?
Thanks,
Misty

Misty, we are doing the Dune Buggy tour and it includes the ruins right on cozumel (sorry don't know the name) as well as driving the dune buggies, a mexican picnic lunch and some beach and snorkeling time. If your interested, I can give you more info.

Misty,
I e-mailed you the details, but basically, $89.00 pp, 7 hours of dune Buggying, beaching, snorkeling, lunching and Mayan Ruins. Tour is from 10:30 am - 5:30 pm. No age limitations. I figure since we are in Coz. until 11:00 pm that should give us plenty of time for a little shopping, Charlos & charlies, and anything else that we feel the need to do in town, when we get back. The tour takes off from about a block away from the pier!
Let us know what you decide to do! We are going March 27th cruise and will write a full report when we get back! When are you going? I can give you details when we get back.
