Has Anyone Ever Done This?

Alittle back story, We just recently purchased 150 pt BWV contract. It has 77 pts that have to be used by 5/31/14. For Mothers Day my husband told me that we can go back to Disney in December to use those pts+ :cool1: :cool1: The only issue is that we just closed yesterday, so I really can't "book" a trip for another 2+Weeks. I am 99.9% postive that the resort will be booked anyway and unfortunately their is no other time to go before they expire(we are going to Aruba in March 2014). So I got to thinking :scratchin What if I rented my 77 pts from 2012 and the 150 pts from 2013 and just booked a cash reservation at the Villas...I know that the value would be less with cash, 2 bedroom on pts compared to a 1 bedroom on cash, but hey, at least we can go to our "Home" Resort! Has anyone done this before? It sort of seems too good to be true. We bought resale, but prior to that we were looking into direct so we could opt to stay at the Poly on pts...UNTIL I saw how many pts it would cost to stay there. If thats the case, why would anyone use pts to stay at a non dvc resort...why wouldn't you just rent your pts and pay cash :confused3

zero shot the whole resort will be booked for next mothers day.....you will be fine may is a slow and expensive point month relax!

I apologize, I meant to say for Mothers Day(my gift was) that we could go back to Disney in December of this year. :lmao: I left out the MOST important part! Sorry :)

Don't do anything until you get your member number and see what is available. There may be something at one of the DVC resorts that will work for you - book what you can and then waitlist if you'd prefer something else. You do NOT have to stay at BWV. There are lots of DVC resorts at WDW.

I own at BWV and totally love it, but I would never give up a December trip to WDW, even if I had to stay at a DVC resort that isn't BWV! :)

Sometimes when I write things I forget to put all the details in...I guess because in my head I know what I am talking about :) The plan that I meant to write was, in the case that I get my member # and their is no availability at the BWV on PTS, I would Rent those pts to someone and then book a CASH reservation at the BWV in December! This would be our first trip "Home" and we really would like to stay at our "Home" Resort. We normally stay at the Poly which is why we are so excited to stay at the BWV. OH, I would NEVER give up a trip in December :lmao: but I think if we can't stay at BWV that may be a deal-breaker with my husband which is why I am trying to think of everything possible to get a room there :)

Carol has given you great advice. Part of the fun of owning DVC is getting to visit the different resorts. If you have money to burn, go ahead and rent your points and do a cash reservation. Personally, I would never do that if there were still other DVC resorts open for point bookings. You may also find that booking at AKV, OKW, or SSR will allow for a longer stay. Use the money that you saved by not booking cash and use it on something special during your stay.

OK. I understand.

Can you splurge for a 1 bedroom for your first trip? If so, I think there is a pretty good chance you can get something at the BWV. I have been keeping an eye on the studios and 1 bedrooms for the first two weeks just for fun - we're going 11/30 - 12/7. The studios are all booked solid, but there is surprisingly, still availability for 1 bedrooms. Also, I think the VGF may pull some out of the BWV for December.

So if you have to waitlist when you first book, don't pull the trigger on that cash reservation until after the booking window opens for the VGF for your dates. You might get very lucky! : pixiedust: : pixiedust:

Our first trip using our points was not to our home resort. It turned out wonderfully.

Even if you paid cash for a room, it wouldn't be the same experience. The CMs wouldn't 'Welcome you home." So I would follow the PP's advise to see what is 'out there' and available.
