Has anyone ever done a movie marathon at a theater?

I'm thinking about signing myself up for the Twilight marathon. It's 5 movies in a row with a run time of 693 minutes.

Has anyone here ever participated in a movie marathon like this and what was your experience?

I would be going alone as my husband would rather burn his own retinas than sit through this. And my daughter is in school

(ETA: I am a 43 year old woman and I understand that I should inherently be ashamed of myself for even considering spending the day in a theater watching Twilight movies -- but that issue aside....) :)

I'm with your husband on this one! ;)

I am curious what the attraction would be for you? If you were going with a group of friends, movie choice aside, maybe I'd get it. But I can't imagine spending that much time in a movie theater, all alone, watching something that is available on DVD. But if it sounds like a fun filled day to you, go for it. Have fun!

I haven't done that one, but I know someone who has - more than once - and has a good time. She says it's always mostly women ... above legal drinking age, heh... some bring their teenish daughters, who often sit in a teen clump, but she says it's generally adult women who all go to have a fun day and she often ends up talking to some around her (she can't convince anyone to go with her).

I couldn't do that many movies without being in my own home. Lol. I have gone to 2 movies somewhat back to back without a related theme by myself. However, if this is something YOU want to do,I say go for it. Our movie theater is having a similar thing and I enjoy the Twilight saga, I just couldn't do it. Have a great time!

Oh! So this is something that a bunch of people show up for? I figured it would be the OP'er, a few tweens, and a couple creepy old guys in the theater. :lmao: I just can't imagine Twilight drawing a huge crowd but maybe I'm wrong.

Oh yea Twilight crowds can be something lol. A cou9le older creepy guys, gay guys(who honestly were the only ones besdies young teens weren't screaming like banshees when Taylor Lautner took off his shirt) I am 44 pretty mouty female, but even I have a sense of decorum in a movie theater .if it isn't a special showing of Rocky Horror,I pretty much zip my mouth. OP: id have to have a box of candy and a drink for every movie.mix it up sno caps, gummi worms, etc.

Definitely! Twilight has a HUGE following, I'm betting the marathon will be pretty packed.

OP, I did a Batman marathon for the Dark Knight Rises. We also showed up 4 hours before it was going to start, because I wanted to claim some good seats. :lmao: My friends that came with me were not amused. ;) I loved it. For such a long period of time, only the die hards will come out, for the most part. We made some great friends and had awesome conversations in between movies.Granted, Batman drew more of a nerdy fan base, so we spent a lot of the time talking about the comics and which Robin was better, but I loved it! I would do it again in a heart beat, even though I never wanted to sit again after that!

Huge crowd. Huge. I've never done Twilight, I did a marathon a long time ago for another, geekier franchise and that drew a crowd, though the movies were WAY older (like they were old at the time of the marathon).

The woman I know has done the Twilight isn't from any big town and said there's a big crowd, mostly adult women, bunch of other people on their own besides her, lots of fun.

I have never done that before, but it sounds like a lot of fun!

That's almost 12 hours of show...there's gonna be some hardcore fans for sure.

I have never done it and would not do it for "Twilight"...but if you love the series, why not?:)

IF I was doing a marathon, I would go for "Resident Evil", "The Matrix", "Lord of the Rings", "Jason Borne", or "Star Wars"....thinking off the top of my head.

I would wear sweats, have slippers, and be comfy.;) Are you forced to only eat theater food?

I wouldn't want to do it. At home, absolutely (well, for a different movie series, not for the Twilight series), but in a theater, no way. If I were going to watch a movie marathon, I'd want to be in my comfy clothes, wrapped up in a quilt on my couch and with my cat on my lap, eating my own snacks. Sitting in a theater chair doesn't seem quite as comfy and appealing.

BUT, OP. If you think it sounds like a fun time, go for it, and have a great time. :thumbsup2

DH and I have done the Twilight marathon the last two years and I already have our tickets for this year. It's my birthday present. DH isn't that into the movies, but I don't really ask for much, so he goes with me.

I like going because I think it's fun to see all the movies in a row.

One of the PP's is right, there are a lot of older women who go solo or in small groups. We usually sit talking to the other guests between movies.

I take a pillow and a throw blanket since I get cold in movie theaters. We also get up and walk and take bathroom breaks between movies.

This year, we'll have an early lunch before we go to the theater and we'll take advantage of the snack, drink and food specials our theater is running for marathon guests.

Go! Have fun!

PS Don't be ashamed, there are worse things you could be doing instead ;)

We were thinking about doing the Nolan Batman marathon, but didn't go in the end.

We did our own marathon one year. We did a triple feature day at our favorite theatre where we watched Shrek 3, Pirates 3, and Spider-Man 3 back to back to back.

*raises hand* Me!

I have gone solo all the Twilight releases and sat through them all including last years 4 movies with BD1 at Midnight. It was fun getting to meet all the fans around me (had a news crew visit our theatre last year) and they had trivia games and such between movies. My rowmates even got Cheesecake factor for dinner (rest. next door to theatre) between New Moon and Eclipse. I also attended the 4 night Harry Potter 8 movie marathon, too.
I have my ticket for the 5 movies and they took pity on us and will start BD2 at 10:00pm! Some tips:
- show up early as in 1-2 hours early for choice of seat. You don't want to be in the very front seats for 10+ hours!
- bring/wear comfy clothes and a blanket if you get cold easily. Fashion can take a break - dress like Bella.
- well charged electronics for while you wait and take pics of the crazy crowd
- water bottle to refil at the fountains and snacks in your backpack. They will let you bring in a bag - like I said earlier I brought in take out without a blink of an eye (and I was by far not the only one! - the rest. was handing out menus when you went into the theatre, lol). Save the sugar for the end and watch the salt. To harry potter I brought in sandwhiches to save money.
- Plan your bathroom breaks - cut out a scene or two before the end of the movie or a slow scene in the middle to avoid 15 minute or more waits in the HUGE bathroom lines.
- Plan to revel in the fandom.

Have fun!

I've done both LotR and Harry Potter Marathons, and also the Marvel Marathon. Yes, do it. The people that are there are fans, so even if you don't bring a buddy, you'll always have someone to talk to! They're so much fun, and many ticket packages include Concession gift cards as well as special lanyards, buttons, stickers, etc.

I would love to do this, but don't think our theatre is having a marathon.

Last year, DH and I saw the first showing of BD1, AFTER the midnight showing. I think it was at 11:45am or something. The theatre was not even 1/10 full! It was nice. Only adults. No yelling when Taylor takes off his shirt. We are doing the same thing for BD2.

DD16 wants to do this. I can't imagine sitting there for so long, the seats aren't that comfy. I am willing to take her to the 10:00 showing though :). I can stay away for that one! LOL

Agree here ... have done some of above as well as the Academy Award nominated "Best Picture" ones with my DD and always had a great time.

Why can't theatres do these marathons with comedy movies?

Or a bunch of Christmas movies?

The Santa Clause
The Santa Clause2
Christmas with the Kranks
Christmas Vacation

I know these movies have been out a while, but it might still be fun......:):thumbsup2
