Has anyone ever booked DVC same day accomodations?

I had wondered what happens if you find yourself in need of lodgings on short notice, a few reasons I had thought of being flight cancelations, car problems, or just want to stay overnight rather than drive home (FL residents).

I know this would not be do-able online, as it will only allow for the following day to be selected.

Can either member services or the front desk check availability and book same day DVC (on points) accommodations for you?

Has anyone done this before? and if so, which resort did you stay at?

it is not impossible. it has happened. (but i would not count on it very often.)

never, ever let the front desk mess about with your pts. not ever. (if you break this rule, at least go back twice over the next couple of days to check online that they handled things correctly.)

but member services can make the reservation if it is possible (they may have to pull a room back from CRO, depending on the situation.)

SSR is probably the most commonly available option but i'm pretty sure someone reported staying at BCV by making a "that day" reservation.

Once. We stayed at Vero Beach for a couple nights over Labor Day weekend, 2004, having phoned that morning to check on availability.

Yes. I've done it several times.

I've let the front desk mess with my points also. I had an issue only with Vero Beach. They somehow took double points.

My experiences have mostly been good.

I got a room at Animal Kingdom for the next day availability over July 4th weekend this year. Thursday night I went on and checked and a value studio was available (for Saturday night, was supposed to leave on Saturday but wanted 1 more night), but standard and savanna were not. I call MS Friday morning (looking to book the Sat night stay) and value was not available anymore but both standard and savanna were available.

MS had to call the front desk to book the room.

DVC makes reservations and accounts for your points. Disney Resorts runs the hotels.

I don't let DVC run the hotel and I don't let the hotel touch my DVC accounts.

The front desk canceled my reservation by accident, made me a new one, said that they took care of everything.

What they really did was put our points in holding and used points from another contract for the reservation. We didn't catch the mess until I went to book another reservation at 11 months and we didn't have the available points. MS wouldn't let us use the holding points because we were booking at 11 months not 60 days. It took a couple of letters, a few phone calls and a DVC manager to figure out what had happened and to correct the front desk error.

You may luck out and get a last minute reservation somewhere but right now December is booked with only a day open here and there.

Yes, twice. Call ms they will look and then have to verify with the resort if there definitely is a room available.

Thanks everyone for all the great feedback.

Although we haven't had any need, so far, to book on such short notice, in case we ever have car trouble or feel like staying the night, I will know the best way to go about it.

Three years ago we were staying in a two Bedroom at OKW. It was Ontario March break. We had driven down and were suppose to check out Friday morning. the weather the first half of the week wasn't great but it got better thursday. I remember my mother and I both saying we should stay an extra day. We had to call member services and they actually had the Friday night available, it was 50 something points. We didn't even have to move rooms. It ended up being so nice the Friday we went to one of the waterparks. best 50 or so points we ever spent.

DW and I several times have been at DTD for the day and decided we wanted to stay the night. Called the resorts directly (back before MS was open on Sundays) or MS and checked in within 15 minutes.
We have gotten into the larger resorts OKW, SSR, & AKL; did not even try for the smaller resorts.

We did so once .....we were driving down and drove straight through .....called MS and was able to add the night at BWV

We did it once and it was because of a tropical storm hitting our next destination. I think a lot of guests had cancelled their trip at DVC because of the storm.

We ended up arriving a day early (don't even ask). This was before MS was open 7 days a week - and they were closed! Showed up at the front desk at OKW, and they were able to book us into a room on points without any major problems. We figured at that point if they couldn't do anything for us at OKW, we'd drive to the values for a night, or get something just offsite, but we lucked out.

Now, since MS is open all days, I'd be sure to call them to book! :rotfl:

We've done it quite often. I've gotten, BWV, OKW, SSR and AKL. But we aren't particular picky where we stay. We like all the resorts, and as long as we get a room, we are happy.

I did it once. Called MS and they had a 2-br available at BCV! We checked in 10 minutes later.

We were at the airport to fly home after our WDW vacation and 1 hour after we arrived the flight was cancelled. I called MS and got a 2-bdroom at SSR for that night. We got our luggage back from the airline, rented another car for the day and went back to WDW.

Pretty encouraging feedback. It's good to know that the front desk can make arrangements if necessary, this might be necessary in the future if we ever have unexpected car trouble and MS is closed.

I think I'd like to stay spur of the moment sometime, sounds fun. We're not to picky about where we stay, we like OKW a lot because of the 2 queen beds in the studio. We've got some holding points to use up by Dec. 1st.

In March of 2011, we were staying at Windsor Palms in a 2 BR condo, and the water heater in the unit above flooded ours. It was a terrible mess. We needed 2-3 days to sort through all of our soggy stuff, and I called member services, and got a 1 BR at Saratoga in the Carrousel area. It was great to get there and clean up our wet clothes and sort and repack. At the last minute and with a big mess to deal with, I could only think of Disney, and it worked out great!:worship: Thank you. DVC! :worship:

We have friends who decided to delay their drive home and got a room at AKL. Last fall break we decided to stay another night and checked availability - we were in BLT and we could have stayed another night, but didn't have the points! Moved to AoA instead. So, even BLT was available on short notice (Monday night, mid-October.)
