I've not had soda (by choice) for over a week now...I found that I was drinking wayyy too much Diet Pepsi/Diet Mt. Dew and thought i'd go a few days to see if I felt different.

I know it's diet, but i'm hoping to lose a few more pounds before summer and was thinking the carbonation alone would probably help my digestive tract and complexion. Has anyone else given up Soda? Have you noticed a change for the better?

I still have 2 diet snapples a day, which I look forward to.

I can't give up my diet soda...I am way to addicted. Especially to Diet Vanilla Coke :p However, I, too, drink way too much but have found that I hate water (plain water). I found a remedy with flavored sparkling water - it still has all the bubbles and a taste but isn't soda. I am drinking about 2 20 oz. bottles a day and then only maybe one can of diet soda.

Yep

Coffee 1 cup in a.m.
Water rest of the day

Good for you! :D Thats something I couldnt do. I do drink alot of water each day(over 80 oz), but I still couldnt live without my diet coke, especially with my meals. ;)

I did for about a year because of my IBS and benign breast cysts. After about a year I decided the IBS was still the same and I'd had to have 2 BIGGER cysts drained so I had a Cherry Coke. I've had one day for about the last 9 months. :D

I used to drink diet pop all the time, but I've seen a couple of studies lately showing how NutraSweet is contributing to a lot of health problems including MS-like symptoms. Since I've given it up I feel SO much better. I had no idea that it was affecting me the way it was. I try to drink a cup or two of decaf in the mornings, and water or ice tea the rest of the day.

I go through my spells where I give them up, but it's hard. When I go off of them, then slip up and have one a few months later, it wires me up where I can't sleep for weeks afterward.

I gave up ALL soda or pop about 12 years ago, and I have not missed it at all. I feel better when I don't drink that stuff, and now if I even take a sip, my stomach complains.

We stopped buying soda a while back and haven't missed it. When we eat out, we do have soda with our meals.

:drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

I am trying to cut back and drink the flavored seltzer but its just not the same.

DD Sarah gives up soda for Lent every year. I wish that she could either give it up entirely or switch to diet sodas like I did. Those empty calories sure add up quickly.

I've tried giving it up but I haven't been successful  :sad2: :sad2: . I love my Pepsi!

I cut back to one glass of coke a day (usually with dinner).

I haven't noticed any differences, though it's only been a week.

Trying to lose an extra, oh, 15 pounds before summer :(

I haven't given it up entirely and still have 1 - 2 cans of Coke a week. But, considering how much I used to drink, I have more or less broken the habit.
Now I drink carbonated water a lot. I found that I missed the carbonation more than the sweetness.

I have a soda MAYBE once a week, and that is a sugar-laden Coke or Ginger Ale. 1) Fake sugars are not great for you (some may even be harmful), and they make you crave REAL sugar, so you aren't doing yourself a great favor by drinking diet sodas as a form of weight control. 2) All you women should be WORRIED about what all that soda is doing to the calcium content of your bones. When you get older, I guarantee you are going have a VERY LOW bone density. That is reason enough for me to stay away (and it doesn't matter if it is a diet soda, same bad results).

Water, water, water.

I completely agree with this...I do miss the carbonation, yet I've grown to love the taste of Diet Mt. Dew...plus the caffeine gives me a huge kick.

That being said, when I buy soda, I find that I only drink soda all night long, so i've stopped buying it and now I drink water. I do want to re-incorporate it in at some point, but not for awhile.

I can't tell you the last time I had soda. I drink water all day, no coffee or soda. I occassionally have a glass of skim milk in the evening. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I drink soda in a year.

I used to drink coke like it was water, probably about 5 or 6 cans a day, sometimes more  Last summer I went on a diet and cut out all the soda, I went through caffeine withdrawal which consisted of a nagging headache that lasted 3 days straight, not fun. I started drinking water all day (about 90 oz) after about 2 months without it I got pretty bored with water and I hate sparkling water, I find it bitter. I then allowed myself one diet cherry coke a day. I went off the diet but still kept my one a day rule going. Recently I switched from diet coke to Sprite but I don't have one a day, I have about one every 3 days or so. Honestly (maybe I'm weird) but I didn't notice any difference in the way I felt after I stopped drinking soda, after the withdrawal of course *shrugs*

:scared1: You would have to glue my mouth shut to keep Diet Coke out of it!!

Well, I've tried to cut back... don't know that I want to give it up altogether. ;)

My dd's gymnastics team is having their semi-annual Coke fundraiser right now - so will definitely buy some.

My family loves the fruit-2-0 flavored water. We try to keep lots of that on hand, of course I think it has some artifical sweeteners in it as well, so maybe it's not really as much better as you would think.
