Has anyone else booked a child as an adult for DDP?

I just saw a post about this so at least one person has done this. Has anyone else called and inquired? I'd do it if it were allowed but it doesn't "feel" like it would be allowed during free dining. If its more widespread and commonly allowed, I'd be up for it. I won't lie about ages; but if Disney allows you to do this after the fact only paying for adult MYW ticket, seems like a good deal.

I would think that if you were paying for it, they would not have a problem. I think you are correct about not allowing it during the free dining though.

Yes, I am going during free dining and I upgraded by 8 year old to an adult.

I explained what I wanted to do when I booked my trip. The CM was unsure if it was allowed, asked a superior and I was told I could as long as I paid for an adult MYW ticket for him. This was a minimal amount and for us was worth paying. DS has a sister who just turned 10 and would he would be very upset if he was stuck with chicken nuggets at a TS and she was eating filet or at CS not being allowed a Bacon Double cheeseburger but having to eat cold chicken.

That makes sense to me, logically. But the way no one jumped all over kcrew for booking child as adult, thought maybe it is allowed if you are willing to spend more on adult ticket for them. I understood all the worry about adult/child credits in the paid for plan more so than the free dining. Its free anyway...... Disney gets the same money from family of 4 paying rack rate with two 10 year olds as it gets from family of 4 with two 6 year olds. Only difference is MYW ticket difference. Anyway, I'm all paid for so can't imagine calling and trying to change unless I've heard here a bunch of others have done it without any problems. It does feel like it shouldn't be allowed but maybe if they allow it during regular dining, they feel obliged to offer the same deal during free dining. It sounds like kcrew was honest about it during booking but it may be a loophole thats been closed down now.

We did exactly the same thing!!! I DID tell them while booking that he was 9 but we'd like to upgrade him to the adult status (He's almost as big as I am!!)..there was no problem at all...in fact, I remember the CM telling me that she 'felt bad' that we'd have to pay extra re: his MYW tickets, etc. It was a very minimal price difference (I think around $50 or $60 for 10 nts) and we gladly paid it!! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys! I was sure I was going to get big time flamed for even asking! I'm going to look into upgrading the oldest only. If nothing else, maybe sharing won't be considered such a big deal if one kid is an "adult". Sharing among adults seemed more ok that with kids.

This was really easy, the CM acted like it was pretty straightforward to charge me the difference in MYW ticket, nothing sneaky required. I think upgrading one child to adult is all the flexibility we need, very easy to make sure only use adult credits vs child as allowed....... but since i do like the idea of sharing I'm tempted to upgrade the other child just so if we do share occasionally, there will be no way anyone can worry about whether we are trying to save a credit such that child gets used for adult credit. For the buffets and HDDR, its a way of getting the servers more money since they get tipped as adults.

Told you so. :) Enjoy your trip.

I am so glad I saw this thread! I just called and upgraded my 8 year old to an adult. I had to pay $11.72! We only need one day base tickets. We have aps.
Now she will be able to eat off of the adult plan! I had figured that during free dining it would be a no-no, so I didn't even try before I saw this thread. I figured I would be paying oop a few times for her since my kids very rarely get kids meals. They just don't like them! At least I know now that you can do it, in case we get the meal plan again. This is our first time on the ddp, waiting to see if we like it enough to book for Dec.
