Has anyone downgraded?

DH and I spent our first DC in a stateroom with a veranda and LOVED it. We are going this year and next, so my question is would you stay in an inside stateroom this time and then go back up, or would you not have as good of an experience without that veranda to relax/eat/read/etc on. Just trying to decdie!

We had a Veranda for our first cruise as well. On our past cruise in Sept 03, we stayed in an inside stateroom and enjoyed our cruise just as much. We will definately book another inside room on a future cruise and spend the addtional money and excursions and drinks! If you want to sit outside and read, you can always go to deck 4 or the secret deck 7 area.

Thanks for the imput! Secret Deck 7...hmmmm don't know about that yet! We also loved sitting in the comfy chairs on the prom. deck. Too relaxing!

We have been on 3 cruises so far, with #4 booked for this October. On cruise #1 we had an inside cabin, on cruise #2 we had a Secret Porthole Cabin and on cruise #3 we had a verandah. For our upcoming cruise we chose a Category 9 cabin with a porthole (no Secret Porthole cabins were available or we would have gone for that). While we enjoyed the verandah we didn't feel that it was worth the additional $1000 it would have cost us. I know there are lots of opinions on this subject but for us downgrading to a porthole cabin was our preference.

well i am going all out since it is my first cruise, we book cat 2 so of course that means we will be eating bread and water all year to pay for it but i wanted a really really nice trip, next time i am going economy all the way, i think it iwll be just as great

For our first cruise we had a category 4, with 2 adults and 3 children. We rebooked for 2 rooms, a category 6 and a category 11 (across the hall from each other). My hubby will still have his verandah, but we'll have more space and an extra bathroom. Plus it costs almost $1,000 less!

I "downgraded" from first trip (3day wonder) to my second trip (7 day Magic this summer)

The first time we did the Cat 6 Verandah and I LOVED it!

We joined the Disney Vacation Club and figured out that we could book a 7 day at a lower Cat. for our family of 4.

So, this year it is a Cat 10.

On our last trip, I saw an inside room and was pleasantly suprised that they were so nice and did'nt feel like a cave. Instead of a porthole looking out, there is a nice porthole mirror. So, you get that illusion of a window.

Anyway, think of your room as your bedroom. You only sleep, change and bathe there. A nicer room is a great treat!

I loved having a Verandah and would do it again...but a lower cat. room on a Disney cruise is better than NO Disney cruise!

We had a 4 day Cat 3 booked for our upcoming cruise in July thinking that we'd go as first class as we could afford. Then, last summer we got a great deal on a 5 day Carnival cruise that we would go on while waiting for the Disney cruise to roll around. So we booked a stateroom with a porthole. Needless to say, we were only in the room to change and sleep. We rarely opened the curtain because all you saw was water! If you're like us, you'll want to be where all the action is! So, on the way home from our Carnival cruise DH had me call Disney and change our 4 day cat 3 to a 7 day cat 10! It only cost us about $200 more!

I'd rather have 3 more days on the high seas!

Our first cruise (Disney Magic 7-night) was in a Category 4 stateroom. We loved the verandah, but when it came time to book our 2nd cruise 18 months later, we opted for two Cat 10 deluxe inside staterooms. Based on our experience with that cruise (money saved, extra closets and bathrooms), we will most likely stick with Cat 10 rooms on future cruises. The verandah was nice, but I'd rather save money on the cabin and cruise more often.

Our first Disney cruise we had a verandah. It was nice but we were so seldom in the room it was almost a waste.

Our next three Disney cruises have all been an inside cabin and so is our next cruise. It's a place to sleep, clean up and change for the next event.

Besides I can save the money for other goodies like my new DCL watch!

We "downgraded" for our upcoming April 24 cruise. We will have an inside room this time. We had a veranda on our four previous Disney cruises. I too am worried about whether of not we will like it. We are traveling without children so we can go to another deck for fresh air whenever we want.

March 27th will be my first Disney Cruise, but 12th cruise all together. I have been in everything from a "bargain basement; 4 girls in an inside tiny room" to a "penthouse suite w/ veranda and concierge". For our Disney cruise we chose a cat. 11 deck 6 inside stateroom. A veranda is nice, but we didn't use it half as much as we thought! We are like the above poster, we Love to Be Where the Action is! When we had the veranda, we felt a little obligated to sit there at least a few minutes of the day. You shouldn't feel "obligated" to do anything on a cruise. We have never had a bad cruise, and I think the cabin has so little to do with how good of a time you have! I do prefer an outside to an inside cabin - Like to see the weather outside, but for the extra $1000 or so it would have cost, forget it! If it was maybe a hundred buck or so, that's a different story. I can spend my $1000 doing other things than forcing myself to stay in my cabin!
