Has anyone done any special tours at the parks when going solo?

Would it be difficult for someone with an ECV but who can walk short distances and can do steps with a railing to do the KTTK tour?

I've done KTTK and Caring for Giants solo. KTTK was fine, and Caring for Giants I ended up being the only person on that tour, so I might have gotten more info than what they usually share since there was nobody else there.

I also do ABD tours solo, so doing these small tours at the parks solo is nothing compared to those trips. :)

I did the Caring for Giants tour solo, the Sunset Savannah tour at AKL solo, the now defunct Lunch with an Animal Keeper solo (three times!), and a now defunct Behind the Scenes at Animal Kingdom (can't even remember the name of the tour). That one was interesting because there were about 8 others who had come together, were all friends, and then me. So I felt a little awkward, kind of an outsider. Then, our guide at one point, gave us a choice of seeing something, and I was the only one who spoke up, so everyone had to see the backstage hospital for birds. I had a feeling I was the only one really interested. As a big Animal Kingdom fan, I loved the tour, good thing being solo didn't bother me!

I've done all of the Animal Kingdom tours solo, behind the seeds solo, there was a magic kingdom tour I did solo but it's not Keys to the Kingdom - that one is still on my list to do.

Anyways - I had fun on all of them. Sometimes I had a group that wasn't as friendly (my 2nd time at Wild Africa Trek tour- I've done that 3 times) and I just ignored them and went about having fun anyways.

I always have fun at Disney. I want to go to Disneyland solo and was able to squeeze in a day once when I was there for a D23 expo solo a long time ago but my husband always insists on joining me there. LOL

I've done the KTTK but with my boyfriend. Never have done a solo. I have thought about it though. I think I might have to put this on my bucket list. Would love to do the Animal Kingdom trek and All four parks tour.

Thank you , That’s pretty cool you were the only person! They seem to get booked up pretty quickly when I looked last trip.

Thank you, I guess it’s the luck of the draw for what type of group you have. But like you said you anything Disney is always fun. Very jealous you got to go to d23 and Disneyland . Definitely on my bucket list!

When I did Behind the Seeds solo it was back before people really found out about it, I got the last slot that day as a walk up even. It ended up being literally just me and a couple from Arizona and it was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had at the parks. Our guide was able to go a bit more in-depth with us because the group was so small and we each got an entire bag of the cucumbers (iykyk).

I recommend to start with Keys to the Kingdom. It is priced a bit less than WAT and it is a good value. This way you're committing a bit less and if you like it then you can decide to pay for more expensive options knowing you'll like them. I loved KTTK, I sat at lunch with my guide too, which reading the comment here now, seems the norm. It's actually clever. I also did the seeds tour in Epcot, which is an even more amazing value (at the time the cost was only $15, even discounted by 10% with DVC) and Backstage Magic. That was super-awesome, it's led by ABD guides who were very friendly and knowledgeable. WAT is next on my list.

Kind of. I did the Disneyland Adventures by Disney trip as a solo, which includes a bunch of backstage tours. Overall people were very friendly and happy to talk with me. Since most people on these tours have a common interest based on what you're seeing, it's easy to chat. The only comment I ever received was from people impressed that I was willing to vacation solo. And they were genuine about it, since some people get anxious traveling on their own. I would try some of the WDW tours on my own.

The Rhino and elephant tours are on my list too they sound great.
I’ve done both solo and they were great!!

It does seem like the meals are probably the worst part of it.
Food is not part of those tours (not sure if that’s what you meant), but in general grabbing a snack and people watching is great too. :)

I've done the rhino tour solo as well and it was a wonderful experience. I think there was another solo or two on my tour but everyone was very friendly. There's a lot to listen to and watch so you'll be focused elsewhere.
I did the rhino tour solo. It wasn’t that long and the guides talked throughout so I didn’t really feel like out of place. The only place I felt a little out of place was the restaurant in the pyramid in Mexico because the tables were so close together.

Of all the reasons I have come across for being uptight about solo traveling, that one is the most valid. I haven't been there solo but I have a number of times with others and even then the closeness is overwhelming sometimes. I can only image what it would be solo. I always felt that in order to not be pushed away it was important to synchronize your breathing so when the person behind you exhaled, you inhaled and vise versa. Slight exaggeration there but I did find it confining indeed. That one I understand!

It was really awkward at Coral Reef once. I was seated at a table for two, and right next to me was another table for two, so close that a couple inches closer would have made a table for four. Right after they seated me, they seated a solo gentleman at the next table, seated across from me. It seemed like they were trying to play matchmaker. I think he felt awkward too because he ate super fast and was out of there before I was half way through my meal. He may have been fun to chat with, but under the circumstances, I was glad to see him go!

I did Keys to the Kingdom solo in March. For lunch they had place cards and I was put with the guide and a couple who were my age.

The tour was interesting and of course every Disney fan wants to see the utilidors. What caught me by surprise was how much standing in place we did during the five hours. I expected more walking not so much standing, because standing is IMHO harder than walking. My legs felt it by the end of the day!

I am staying four nights after my husband flies home. I booked the Wild Africa Trek for one of my solo days and am excited.

Not at WDW, but at Disneyland I did the Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour in 2019. This exact tour doesn't exist anymore, but it ended with a visit to Walt's apartment above the fire station. I went solo, and it was lovely. We went on a couple attractions, (Alice & Wonderland and the Railroad) and I don't remember it being awkward. When we got to the end, half the group went to the apartment while the other half ate and then we swapped. They sat me with a mother/daughter duo for lunch, and we had a lovely conversation. One of the highlights of my trip.

It really is luck of the draw, whether people are open to socializing with folks outside of their group or not. As an often solo traveler, my experiences have run the gamut from incredibly awkward to entirely magical. For me, the magical moments are worth an awkward moment or two along the way.
