Has anyone done a half or full outside the US?

I am thinking of something to run after RunDisney. This year I went to Hawaii and did the Happalua in Honolulu...but for 2014 I am thinking of something like Europe...but a half not a full and between the months of March and April...I know that's a real tight time but that's what I have to work with.

Just wondering if anyone ever traveled that far to run ...where was it...was it worth it...and would you do it again??

I've done a few races in Canada & the UK. I travelled for the London Marathon (my first). It was an incredible experience & I'd do it again in an instant, but, based on my experience, it's really hard to do your best time with significant travel. I was so pooped from running around being a tourist & seeing friends & it was harder to watch what I ate.

I'd absolutely travel for the experience of running internationally, but I'd stick closer to home if your real goal is a PR.

As another follow-up, I think you'll actually find tons of races in that timeframe, since that's peak race season in the Northern Hemisphere. I'd love to run the Vienna Half someday, at the end of April. There's also Vancouver about the same time, which a lot of my friends have loved running.

I'm travelling from Ireland to run PHM does that count? :)

I want to keep on with races too, but not a full!!

Was thinking the Dublin Rocknroll one but thats Summer I think!

Can have a scout and come back to you :)

I ran the Bupa Great North Run half marathon in September 2011 in Newcastle, England. At the time it was the world's largest half. I had a fun week traveling in England for the first time.

City Pier City in The Hague is a half in March. I haven't run it but it's on my list to run some day.

My first full marathon started in Buffalo, NY but around mile 4 we ran into Canada and finished up by Niagara Falls.

When I was in Italy I did wake up and do a run while I was in Siena and found out too late about a 10k while I was in Florence that I most definitely would have done. Had I not been there to bike I would have run more and tried to find some race to do if possible. I've gotten to the point that everywhere I go I try to find at least a 5k to do and that would be true of travel to another country.

In the past 15 months, I've done races (fulls and an ultra) in Dublin, Madrid, Stockholm, Dubai, and Cape Town. I find going to different places to run to be a great way to see new cities from a different perspective than just the typical tourist.

Wow interesting places!

Cape Town...now that's a distance.

Yes I can see the tiredness of it too...jet lag...and that sort of thing.

I am going to check out the Vienna....

I used to work in the airline industry and thus did quite a bit of traveling but never for running races...just for leisure. So while I love many places in Europe, if I went to London then I wouldn't be caught up in all the touristy things because I did live there once upon a time...so London would be my first choice...plus it is a great city.

However on that note I do want to go someplace I have not been before and I have never visited Vienna...so I must check that out.

I would have loved to do a Dublin Half but the timing was all wrong for me...Dublin is a lovely city.

Yeah, that was a long trip, but well worth it. Two Oceans had been on my "must do" list for years, and I'm glad I went. Gorgeous scenery, very challenging course, and a wonderful area for sightseeing, wine tasting, etc.
