Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

I wanted to report back on how my Magic Band held up on my trip. My MB was decorated with 5 thin layers of glow-in-the-dark Mod Podge, Frozen temporary tattoos from Party City, and a few light layers of Aleene's Matte Acrylic Sealer Spray. My trip was short (3 days), but my MB was exposed to intense hot and sunny weather, and rain. There was some very small, super thin cracks around where the band curves under the wrist. They are not very noticeable unless you're looking closely. I was also careful to not flatten out the MB, which would probably result in large cracks. It held up well and I could even use this band again on my next trip. The coolest part was that the band glowed when we were on the dark rides! I also got lots of comments from CMs, even one who thought I had bought the Frozen MB from Wandering Oaken's Trading Post! http://s582.photobucket.com/user/nycpetwriter/media/15035193488_a6ddbde439_q.jpg.html

That is awesome!!! Thanks for reporting back...13 days and counting :-)

I love the Lion King. Going to Disney in less than three weeks! There are four pictures. Pride Rock, Mufasa (or is it Simba?) from the musical, Simba's painting on the family tree, and the famous sunrise in the opening scene. Hope you guys like it. BTW I didn't paint the mickey head in fear of it not working.

Excellent job. We love the Lion King. We painted and bedazzled around our mickeys and they all worked fine for 10 days.

DO those fit bits really secure the MB's ?????

Haven't ordered any, but, thinking about it.
:rolleyes1

We wore our Magic Bands for 2 weeks - intense heat, bad storms, every intense ride and never fell off. When we went to Typhoon Lagoon - they recommended that we take them off in the wave pool. She said they find magic bands in them nightly. So we took them off for that only. Otherwise they never fell off. We are home over two weeks now and some of my kids are still wearing them (since we decorated ours) and they still have never fell off.

Did the Modge Podge change the color of your band? I would think it might look cloudy or milky?

It was a little milky going on, but dried completely clear. The Mod Podge does "pool" in the grooves of the Mickey, so I used a tiny paint brush to remove the excess in that area each time I applied a coat.

It has a bit of a tacky finish, which makes a nice base for the tattoos. You do need the sealer to make it waterproof (since mod podge is not waterproof). I imagine you could also use basecoat nail polish if you don't want to buy the sealer (I already had it from another art project, but got it at Walmart--it was ~$5 for the Aleene's Matte Acrylic Sealer spray can in the art section).

You have to put ~5 coats of the Mod Podge on for the glow. If you only put 1 or 2, it doesn't really glow. Here are some pictures:

Also a tip I learned was to keep a light touch when applying the temporary tattoos. The first one I pressed too hard and the tattoo slid under the paper and formed some cracks.

Keeping a light touch and lightly pressing got a clean transfer without breaking the picture.

Here is the magic band I decorated. First coat of Sally Hansen base coat, then two coats of Julep Chelsea glitter polish on band, two coats of NYC Prince Street on Mickey head and then finished with two coats of base coat again. I like how it turned out.

Has anyone spray painted their magic bands? I'm tempted to use the glow in the dark spray paint instead of nail polish. Thoughts?

Since I'm going to Disney World next week (EEP!) and have been drooling over the custom bands on this forum -seriously, you guys are TALENTED! I knew that I wanted to do something. Since I'm a huge fan of Mary Blair, I realized I wanted to do a band based on Its A Small World.

SORRY THESE ARE HUGE!

The grey part comes off for small wrists. It pulls right off, but there are also instructions on how to do so inside the Magic Band box.

I've been completely unable to get the grey part off the band I have - it seems to be completely attached and no amount of working it gets it off. There are gaps against the colored part but nothing resembling "pulling right off". Am I doing it wrong, or is perhaps because I got the band on ebay to practice with.

Thanks!

I remember it wasn't super easy, I might have resorted to using my X-Acto knife to help get it started (sorry, I have a bad memory so I can't completely remember!). However, my friend yanked hers apart in the park this week, so it shouldn't be impossible.

I love it! I wanted to do something with IASW, but couldn't find anything that would work on the band and I can't draw/paint worth a darn.

I think it just boils down to being brave enough to try it. I thought an airbrush tecnique would be cool to try. I just did the nail polish method and for me it took alot of effort to get the nail polish even.

I am very excited since I got my MB in the mail today. My original plan was to use either nail polish or paint and tattoos on one with rub ons on another. I was going to add glitter to highlight and also place a few flat back crystals and flat back pearls. I finally got brave and made the decision to use the nail polish method. I used a green/blue metalic nail polish over a green MB which gives a mermaid scale effect. I then painted the grey outline of the band a metalic gold nail polish. I was going to put Ariel rub ons and accent with flat back pearls. OMG I LOVE how the paint job came out!!! I will post a picture when I can. Now I am scared to put the rub ons on in case I screw it up. Wish I could get a hold of MB that no one wants to do a test run on one before I create my final project.

Thank you for that information. I tried several coats of glow in the dark nail polish over the colored nail polish and it turned cloudy.

I just ordered some glow in the dark mod podge from Amazon tonight :) I'll cover it with a nail top coat to water proof it.
