has anyone compared free dining in cabins vs purchasing it with a campsite?

Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone out there has ever compared the 2. I thought it'd be an easy thing to do, but I can't find a price for purchasing the dining plan, and when I try to put it in the computer it tells me it's not allowed at the campsites. ( I think meaning the free dining) But what I'm wondering is this: we are planning to come down next fall, and if free dining was offered we were going to stay in the cabins. There are 6 of us- all 4 kids will be over 10.

But because when we drove our RV down last Christmas and stayed- it was simply a dream come true. And I'm wondering how it would compare costwise to renting an RV ( I don't think ours would survive another trip that far LOL) and buying the dining plan.... We really want to do the dining plan this next trip because we did that our first time there a few years ago, and it was wonderful to experience all the different places to eat that Disney offers, and there are so many more we want to try!

My trip November 15-23 price difference was somewhere in the $1500 range for the 5 of us going. Cabins with free dining was somewhere around $3800-4000 whereas camper on premium minus dining was $2100.

This includes park tickets and hopper.

Thanks Bama Ed- that was exactly what I needed! Looking at prices, it would be approximately $360 each night just for the dining for our family of 6. Plus the cost of the campsite, and the cost of the rented RV - I'm guessing that would be about $200/night for the 2 of them. So assuming tickets are the same- lodging in the campsite would run about $560/night- I believe the cabins are less than that when I looked... So I think that would be a cheaper route for us... Thanks!!

Because of boarding costs for the pups, the cabins would likely never match the costs of bringing the 5th wheel down for me. But if they work for you and you get to enjoy FW and the magic, I say all the better.

We actually raise basset hound and German shepherds and as much as we love them, for me it's more of a vacation if we have someone come live at our farm while we are gone and leave our dogs home. We miss them but yet it's nice to have no responsibility for that couple weeks! So that part works well for us!

I see that as a personal choice, and I have friends that can leave their pup behind. I dont fault anyone either way. For me finding someone to stay at my house, or take them into their own home is limited. The two families I am closest and would ask to watch the pups travel down to Disney with me. So my only choice then is boarding. I also don't see it as a chore, yes they need to be walked and cleaned up after. But they can deal with the long hours I am gone. After a long day in the parks, there is nothing more I enjoy then sitting in my chair with my Aussie at my feet and my minpin in my lap.
