Just thinking thru a few options on transportation. Has anyone rented a car at MCO - then dropped it off that night or next day at the Dolphin, then taken Mears at the end of the trip?
My logic:
Getting a car just for one day was about $50 on National. That was even without me trying possible coupons codes. We could get the car, stop and get whatever kind of food we wanted.
After we are done with the shopping, etc, my husband could just drop off the car at the Dolphin. We did not plan on doing any parks the first day anyway. For our return trip, we wouild just take Mears back.
We usually carried a bunch of food with us, then stopped at one of the grocery stops with the towncar. For this next trip, I was going to ship a box down rather than carry the food on the plane since the airlines really do not like food carried on now.
Even if I still shipped down a box, I am still a little concerned with the possibility of not being able to stop at a grocery store once in Orlando. We really are affording this trip because we bring food/snacks/drinks with us. I am also concerned, after reading some of the posts lately on these boards, of not being pickup at either the airport or hotel or being picked up by a different company.
I could probably round up some Mears coupons. So all in all, total costs of towncar ($100+) + package shipping (??) vs rental ($55) + Mears ($56 w/o coupons) does not seem to be a big difference.
Has anyone done this? Every single time we have visted WDW, no matter which car company we used, did anyone ever meet us at the luggage. We always had to get our own luggage and look around for our driver. All three times, we also had to call the towncar companies just so they could page the driver so we could meet up.
On the return trips, one went smoothly, one they showed up at the wrong hotel, and this last trip they showed up on the wrong day (my confirmations all had the correct info so who know what the towncar companies were looking at).
By the way, does anyone know what time the rental center in the Dolphin closes? We would either be returning the car the same or next day.
Thanks and have a nice night.
