Has anyone bought a house with the idea of renting?

Well I have just ordered "How to Make Your Vacation Property Work for You" book. Next on the list is to get some good photos taken - unfortunately we can't be there to set up the photos so will have to research getting a good photographer.

As for the furnishings - they come with the house - and are very nice with upgraded items but will have to do until we get out there ourselves.

:thumbsup2 Thanks so much for everyones input - I really want to make a go of this property and really appreciate the help.

I also wanted to say thank you to all of the participants in this thread, especially the current owners. As someone seriously considering throwing my hat into this ring I think the one point that is good to hear from owners is that I share the much of the same attitude. My catalyst is not to get wealthy off of it, but to have a good time and build memories with family and friends. The fact that some of this can be offset by the property is a perk. Now I am not saying that making a profit is a bad thing, but if its the driving force it tends to corrupt the process. I have owned purely income properties and that was their purpose, none of which I have fond memories of.

Just so you know not only do we have advice now but through the whole proccess. We can tell you where to go to get just about anything you will need. If we can't there are so many helpful people on the forums for each community that we will ger er done for you.

Its the hardest job you will love. I look at it as my 4th child. Love it almost as much, care for it almost as much, and am darn proud of it almost as much. If you know what you are getting into before hand than it will be a very good thing. Good luck with the undertaking. Need any info just ask away. we are a wealth of information and I have to say I have not found it to be a cut throat business. There are so many lovely people I have met and they are always holding out a helping hand.

Deb is right on the money! I have to say to that this is the only business I have ever been a part of that other owners don't try to withhold information but are more willing open with anything they have!

I also love what I do. I spend so much time on the computer my husband sees more of the back of my head and laughs that I have a whole secret life that revolves around Florida.... I tell him everthing but he can't seem to keep up with names etc... LOL but he knows I love what I do and how can you not be in a good mood and enjoy yourself when you are helping to make someones dreams of a great trip to Disney World come true!!

What is not to love about that for a job! I wish I could do this instead of my regular day job which is no were near as rewarding as what I do in the evenings!

HI, Just wanted to say I am so glad we bought our home. We looked for a long time and finally decided to take the plunge about 2 years ago. I absolutely love having a vacation home. Please email or pm me if you want to ask any questions that you do not want to post on an open forum.
Also, I could give an opinion on prices, areas etc (back to your original question)
Have fun in your quest!

Congrats Tracey:goodvibes

Can't tell you how many time DH and I are floating in the pool of the home we're vacationing in, and think...hmmm...we could soooo do this....

And then I realize that we would have a home in Florida, and there are times (all the time!) that we're not in it!!

That part is not so delightful!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So we're happy to enjoy all of your beautiful homes.... for now;);)
Can I be a Snow Bird before I turn 40??

We look for homes that we would feel at home in...homes that have a "come in, relax, and enjoy" feeling...and most times, that feeling of hospitality isn't necessarily from the higher end look (although that helps;) )

It's from the homeowner.

We're guests in their 5* properties, and we look for that "Concierge" level of service, from the moment we send out our inquiries.

Enjoy your new baby!!

:sunny:
