I am thinking of stopping there with my family after our cruise this year. What things are worth visiting? What is the Fountain of Youth like? Is the Alligator Farm worth visiting? Thanks everyone!!

St. Augustine is a really neat place, and there are lots of interesting things to visit while you are there. Be sure to see the Castillo de San Marcos (a Spanish fort), and the old jail. There is also a wonderful church there built by Flagler in honor of his late wife.

It is a beautiful place!! The atmosphere alone is worth going for... like WDW they have a channel devoted entirely to the goings on... We love the lighthouse!

What everyone else has said!!:D :D

Air Force Rocks is right about all the wonderful historic sites! And I, too, loved the St. Augustine lighthouse! It is very picturesque and the gift shop was nice as well.

The Fountain of Youth was a little hokey - but still worth the $5.75 admission - after all, you can tell everyone that you really drank from the Fountain of Youth.

My DH and I were at a convention, so our time was very limited so we missed the Alligator Farm. Another convention attendee skipped the lighthouse and did the Farm and gave it two thumbs up!

We actually stayed at Ponte Vedra and the beach was fantastic there!

I have only been to St.A once. It was an unplanned stop---Driving the US in a motor home---that turned into a 3 day exploring stop. Daughter was maybe 10 or 11. She still remembers going into the oldest house in America. We went to the fountain of youth---bought a bottle of the stuff for Krista to bring back to her class----awful tasting stuff--but a great show and tell. There is a trolley that takes you into the " toursisty" area, showing you points of interest all the while telling you the history of St. Augestine. We stayed in a RV park --right on the Atlantic Ocean----Geez now I'm wishing I could go back.

In closing ---I would go again---but this time I'd stay longer---there is so much to see and do.

I grew up near there and went on many school field trips to the historic sites. As a child I always liked the Oldest Schoolhouse and Oldest Store.

There are a lot of things to see which are spread out around town and each place (of course) charges admission. The fort is probably the biggest "attraction", the old Jail, old school, old house, old store, etc. Check out the website www.oldcity.com.

When we visit we like to ride one of the trolleys that take you around to each site. Then you don't have to worry about parking and trying to find the places yourself. But I don't think the trolleys go to the Alligator Farm, which is across the bridge. You can buy package deals at the trolley stations that will save you a few dollars on admission. Also everything closes pretty early, which we found frustrating. Seems like closing times were 5:00 at the latest. Have fun!

For my DH's birthday in October!;) The last visit we stayed on the beach and it was very NICE! Check out the web site: www.staugustine.com and that will give you visitor info on Hotels and such. We are going again this year!;)

I went when I was 14, but I did the really hokey stuff (Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum and a wax museum are what I remember most.) I also remember buying a shell necklace, but that's about all that I remember.

St. Augustine is a nice town. If you are interested in Cathedrals, make sure to stop at the Cathedral Basilica. I haven't been to any of the sites in years. There is a nice winery down there that gives tours. It is San Sebastian winery, you can go on a tour and then sample some of the wines.

We make this our first stop every year on our way to WDW. To me there are 3 great points to St Aug.

1) The Historical side....the fort, fountain of youth, etc.
2) Quiet beachs that are beautiful
3) Outlet Shopping (icluding a Disney outlet)
