Has anybody here ever gotten a free or reduced upgrade at check in at the poly?

I was just wondering, I hear it happening at the WL and the AKL it has happened to me at CBR and the then Dixie even read recently of a women on these boards went from garden wing at the CR to Tower woth MK view but never seem to here about the Poly.

Just wondering Thanks

Dave

I've heard about folks at the Poly getting upgrades but out of my 6 times there I have never gotten any. Probably because I pay for what I want view wise and have a certain building I request. I imagine if I went in open minded and would take anything as far as upgrades I might have a chance. I'm just afraid that the upgrade will be in a building too far from my favorites like the volcano pool or GCH. I am going again in October and have booked lagoon view concierge. That way I know I will be right where I want to be.

Back before my web pages existed and the first time my wife went to the Polynesian we had a standard lagoon view room booked. When we arrived we were told we were upgraded to Lagoon View Concierge. Later on after I got to know some of the staff I asked why we were upgraded. I was told that the discount bookings like Expedia and others overbooked lagoon view rooms so they looked at who had not booked through the discount places online like Expedia and moved us into the only lagoon view rooms left which were in the Concierge building at no extra charge.

Oh I wish I could get lucky like that!!! I am hoping because we are paying rack rates we would get our choice of building and view! I had booked lagoon view but since we extended our time there I dropped to garden and I am a little dissappointed about that. It is our first time at the poly and I am so excited, but anxioius about getting parking lot view! :earseek:
Is it best to fax a building/floor request before I go or take a chance they will pass on an upgrade when we check in? :wizard: bye the way tikiman your website has been a huge help!!

I second what glencoe said about your site. My wife and I used it to decide what building to ask for and to upgrade to teh poly to start with.

Thank you Tikiman

I am glad my pages have been helpful.

glencoe,

Your chances at a parking lot view are very low since the only real view of a parking lot is on the one side of Rapa Nui. I would just figure out where you wanted to stay and when you get there ask nicely to see what is available.

Sorry you had to drop the lagoon view room. Shoot for Tokelau and maybe you will get a view of the lagoon for a garden price.

Aloha

Steve

Glencoe, I have reserved a garden view room at the Poly and like you, I do not want to get a parking lot view. I used the Tikiman site to identify which buildings have the best garden views and then I submitted my top three longhouse choices when making my reservation. I noted on the Tikiman site that some rooms at Rappa Nui have parking lot views, so I eliminated that from my choices.

We have occasionally had lagoon view rooms, but more often had garden view rooms. Our last visit was two weeks ago. We were in Aotearoa room 2209. It had a view of nice landscaping and the monorail. Great afternoon sunshine in the room for naps. No balcony, but it was too cold to enjoy one anyway. It was the most pristinely clean hotel room we've ever stayed in, without a hint of unpleasant mold smell.

Honestly I don't think it is any big deal to not have a lagoon view.

Yeah, Garden View can be awesome at the Polynesian. Our "garden view" room in Fiji overlooked the marina and lagoon and we could see the Contemporary, Space Mt. and the Electric Water Pageant. Garden View at Poly doesn't necessarily mean you'll be looking at plants. -Steph

we had a standard room and was upgraded to Lagoon view - again as Tikiman says they were overbooked at standard and had to upgrade someone.

we were there early - like 10:00am.

so if you can get there before 3:00pm - you might not get a room until 3 - but you also might get an upgrade.

TOKELAU is great, we stayed there on our honeymoon last year and had a superb garden view. How long do you spend staring at the castle anyway?

goofydad, I've stayed once and we didn't get one.

Tikiman, your website is really helpful. DH and I stayed there in Dec for the first time. We stayed in Tokelau and had a view of the lagoon, Space Mountain and Contemporary. We didn't get the room at first but we asked to move and I knew from your site that we could see the lagoon from certain rooms. Thanks!
