I don't think I could post on here what I would do if my plane delayed my cruise which is why we ALWAYS fly in at least 2 days before we cruise! Then if we had to drive the 35 hours straight through from Utah to Florida we'd have a few extra hours to recouperate before we boarded the cruise. I pray our flight is smooth and on time tomorrow!

Chuckle--Yes 2 days at WDW before the cruise and the 7 days in 2 connecting cat 4 staterooms in the E. Carrib.

I plan on doing a very long and detailed trip report when I get back as I will be living my trip again through reports!

Thanks!
Heidi

Almost missed our cruise in March. We were due in at 1PM, didn't land until 4PM - and we barely made that connecting flight. We were rushed through the airport and on to the bus. We boarded at 5PM and the ship departed shortly after that.

If we had missed the ship (we initially felt we would because the original flight wouldn't have put us at MCO until 6:30), we would have been flown to St. Maarten to meet the ship.

GO DOWN THE DAY BEFORE!

We didn't almost miss a Disney cruise--but about 15 years ago, my family (I was in HS) arrived by tow truck to catch our ship in Miami.

We broke down with a blown engine on I-95 at 3:45pm (4:30pm departure). 3 tow trucks passed us by and my mother was crying terribly. I would have laughed but didn't want to get smacked ;)

In any case a tow truck got us and we stopped at a hospital (all other phone booths were pilfered of their phones), she called the travel agent who called the cruise line and they held the boat for us--we arrived 15 minutes after scheduled departure and lugged our things onto the ship--gang plank was literally being pulled up as mom and step-dad jumped on board.

Worst planned trip ever. Trip home was even worst--a snow "storm" in Florida--who would have thought...

Arriving 2 days early is probably a very good thing.

Just last week a coworker was scheduled for a Carnival cruise out of Tampa. Their flight was a go from Toronto, sitting on the tarmac and because of terrrible electrical storm it was delayed and then cancelled. They brought them back into the terminal, were going to go via a second flight via Washington DC. Then there was a terroist alert and all flights into DC were cancelled so they ended up having to waiting for a direct flight. They arrived with 10 minutes to spare and to say the least were exhausted and stressed. I had told her before she went that they should go the day before :)
She is a believer now though. Will definitely go the day before.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Has anybody ever missed thier cruise ?
I've missed my cruise ever since I got off!

No, seriously.

This last March 13 was the anniversary of the "storm of the Century" blizzard which took place in 1993.

I remember the date because it was the date DW and I were scheduled to sail on a RCCL seven day out of Miami.

We had same day flights, and when it looked like it was going to be really ugly ("whiteouts" predicted), I paid for a one-way, same day flight out to miami the day before. I paid almost $500 each. USAir said if our flight flew the next day, we would get no reimbursement from them.

Woke up the next day in a cramped hotel room to CNN reporting "The Storm of the Century".

Airports from Atlanta to Boston were shut or shutting.

Long story-Short, 1/3 of the passengers missed the ship. Many that made it had no luggage as the pilots were trying to get out so fast they did not wait for the luggage to load.

Needless to say, USAIR did not fly the next day and I got reimbursed nearly every penny for the flight I paid for. We had a terrific time and it was such an adventure.

I will never plan to fly in the same day again!

Learn from other's mistakes.

Heidi, after reading your post I tried to figure out how much it would cost to drive to Florida. Well, I pray I never have to. Every since I lifted my Suburban it gets less than 300 miles a tank, well to go a total of 5000 both ways it would take over 16 tanks thats $800! Wew! Thats about how much it costs the 3 of us to fly there. Darn, there go my hopes of driving and saving money. :teeth:

I hope you have a safe smooth flight and MAGICal cruise!

Well for us Makaylee $800 would be a bargain at the cost of airfare for a family of 5 but I'd much rather fly for 4 hours than drive for 35!!!!!

I leave tomorrow! WOOOHOOO

Hi Chucklechops

We flew into Orlando the day before last year from Gatwick and stopped at a hotel at the Florida Mall, had a visit to Wal-Mart that evening and picked up the cruise on the Thursday - it worked like a dream and we'll be doing the same for our May 12th 2005 cruise next year.

Notice my driving story a few posts earlier...

Our family blew an engine trying to catch a ship (non-Disney).

I would only drive to catch a cruise now b/c it is 35 minutes from my front yard to get to it :)

If I ever get to it that is....
