I haven't seen to WDW since the liquid ban went into effect. Can you check a suitcase with wine packaged inside it?

I have packed champagne in my luggage. It must be checked.

Yes we have. We take with us the containers that we will pack the wine in. We have styrofoam wine packaging that is molded to hold two bottles inside a cardboard container. Fits perfectly in a suitcase. We wrap the styrofoam in heavy plastic bags before inserting inside the cardboard containers although we've never had a problem. These containers we use are the same ones wine stores use to ship wine via UPS, etc.

As PP said, this must go into checked luggage rather than carryon.

What was it packed it? How did you keep it from going all over your clothes?

The stopper is wired shut. I just wrapped it in a towel. I don't like carrying wine and such in my luggage though. The way they go through your bags now....they leave everything a mess. I only brought this home because it was a gift.

We have carried wine home from other trips in our luggage, but shipping a box home from a Disney resort is so easy that we do that instead when we're there. We were there for the F&W Festival in '05 and shipped home 5 or 6 bottles. There's no way that would have fit in the luggage! LOL

We have done this tons of times!!!! I think we left the Food and Wine Festival with around 10 bottles. Disney is great at packing the bottles in boxes after they are wrapped up. We places them in the suitcase and make a cushion around them with clothes. We haven't had a bottle break yet. If you like wine, I would suggest going to each country and trying a flight of wine (or two) from each:thumbsup2

As far as I know, you're not actually supposed to mail wine (or liquor, etc). I used to think it was just businesses, but someone elsewhere set me straight, and this info - http://www.usps.com/aviationsecurity/ - matches that info.

Maybe, that's for USPS. I know UPS would ship ground, if sent to yourself, as of last year.

The rules are different shipping with a private company, which is why wineries can still ship to customers even though there is no way to do so via the postal service. We ship UPS, and they don't prohibit alcohol in their shipments. I'm not sure about FedEx, but I'd guess their rules are in line with UPS rather than with the post office.

ETA - When shipping a box home from the front desk of a Disney resort, is standard mail even an option? I think we were only given the choice of UPS or FedEx, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I brought my husband back wine and it was in my carry on...I must say, I was scared that it would break and I HATE the smell...:)I had no problem tho..

I have traveled with an entire case of wine in my checked-in luggage before. (Don't ask :rotfl2: ) Anyways, like others have said - it is totally possible. Usually when I go places, I will bring back 1-2 bottles. Sometimes will get bubble wrap and wrap it around the bottles, and also pack it in the middle of my luggage, with clothes around it - just for added cushion. Pants are especially good, because they are long and can wrap around the bottle a few times.

Also, those Ziplock Big Bags (you know - the ones for sheet sets/sporting equipment/etc) are great to give it that one added layer of protection in case something DOES happen to the bottle - then there is a better chance of it being contained within the plastic.

Definitely needs to be checked - as long as you pack it well, you'll be fine!
