Has any US citizen booked a car through Expedia.ca?

There's a great deal on the expedia.ca site. Has anyone been able to book a car through them without a problem? I tried but had a problem with the credit card.

Since you probably had to put your zip code it when you used your cc, the site knew you were in the US. So, my guess (and it is just a guess) is that you are not eligable to use the Expedia ca site.

From their web site:

We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club, and Discover credit cards, Visa Electron, and any debit card or prepaid credit card that has a credit card logo. At this point we can only accept payment cards that are issued in Canada. Most of our bookings are prepaid and your card is charged immediately at the time of booking. Please make sure you have sufficient daily spending limits so your credit card company or bank will not block your account. Call the bank ahead of time if you're making a large payment on your card. If you are using a debit card, the money will be deducted from your account once the booking is made.

Can I use a credit card with an international billing address?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes! if you have a credit card with a billing address outside Canada you can use it to:
reserve hotel rooms
reserve rental cars
When entering credit card information online, click "Non-Canada billing address" to enable the international billing address format.

This is from their website on the FAQ's page. I called and asked if it was okay for US citizens to book on their site and the CSR said yes. Once I talk to my credit card company to verify, I will be trying.

I thought the same thing, but I read through the "Terms and Conditions" and it said it was eligible for both Canada and US residents. I didn't book it but only because I didn't want to be 100% committed to Budget. I may regret that decision. ;)

Interesting, cause it appears we both went to the web site and got different information. What I quoted from their site was verbatim.

I went to their customer support link for the information I posted. Not the first time a company had conflicting information from both their site and customer service agents.
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Good luck!!! :)

Someone out there must want to try to see if they can get that great deal. Someone--- I might try again with a different card and see what happens. I'm booked on ME if everything ends up falling apart!

It could be a Canadian card but with a international address.

I called and asked, and they said of course Americans can book it. I even asked about my credit card having a Virginia zip code.

But we did not book; my dad would rather not go through a travel agent like expedia in case there are any problems.

I booked **gulp** for Apr 21-28, 2012. Full Size C$136.29 which is just about $135 USD. Confirmation says car taxes and surcharges included.

I called Dollar and confirmed my rental is in their system, but they didn't have the price details --said that's all handled thru Expedia.

I'll probably call Dollar again in a few weeks and make sure all still looks good!

I rented the car through Expedia.ca. I nearly had a heart attack when my credit card company called within 5 seconds to confirm that I made this transaction. I couldn't believe how quickly they called me, I didn't even have a chance to read over the confirmation.

I have a compact from Dollar for $126Can. My cc company said a charge was made for $124. The rate I have with Budget using Budget's site is $263 for the same car.

I hope I don't have any surprises when I get down there.

Donna, when are you going? If you go before I go, could you let me know about your success?

We rented the car for April 23 to 28. I have my name in with ME. Most of our group is taking the bus, myself and another mom will take the car to the store first and leave the four kids with the dads. So, I at least have a back up plan.

I'll try to remember to let you know how it goes.

Wish us luck!

I'm looking to book in March 5-10. I wanted to book this from a suggestion from someone on the dis, but my dad doesn't want to take the chance of a problem when we show up.

usually I tell everyone that they have to stay on property and use DME. But this trip is to travel around the state hitting different baseball spring training sites, so we fly into Orlando, drive around the state staying different places, and then finish with two nights at POP and one day of Epcot. I'm breaking all the rules I usually have for a trip.

My credit card company called before the transaction processed. Once I told them that I made the charge, it went right through. I have a midsize SUV for April 20-27 for 218.10. It includes taxes and fees.

We booked our New Years trip through Expedia.ca (flight and hotel) and had absolutely no problems at all :thumbsup2 . It was a great experience and I wanted to pass along a little reassurance that our Expedia bookings went exactly as we hoped.....no surprises! That said, that reservation did not include a car.

However.....

We did book a car rental separately through Expedia.ca when the rates (as you have found) were WAY less than booking direct through one of the rental agencies. The rates stayed that way right up to about 7-10 days out, when Alamo's rental for the same period dropped way, way down with their Insiders code (free to join) and $35 off coupon. We thought we had hit the jackpot with our Expedia rental at $126 with Dollar, but ended up cancelling the Expedia booking (with absolutely no penalty, for anyone who is wondering) and booking direct with Alamo for a tax-included rate of $69 (and that included a free additional driver....the Expedia Dollar rental did not). Just a little something to keep in mind in case rates plummet for your time period right before you leave. You can see on Expedia how much penalty (if any) you will be charged to cancel before you do so. And my payment was refunded to my credit card within 24 hours.....super fast.

We have an Expedia.ca rental for our upcoming trip as well. $142 for a full size with Budget (which allows a spouse as a free additional driver). Rates direct with a rental agency for our August 26 - September 2 dates are currently showing as $300 USD or better :scared1: . If rates don't come down, we are totally happy with our current rental rate. If they do, I will be cancelling and rebooking. Win-win!

I must say, though, it amazes me how the US Expedia site does not have comparable rates to their Canadian counterpart. Not even somewhat close. Very weird.
