Has a "reserve price" auction ever scare you off?

Whenever I cruise the acution sites I come across those auctions that have a "reserve price" and more often than not I pass them by even though they have a pin I really want. Sometimes I get curious and ask the seller what the reserve price is and after I pick up my chin from the floor after hearing the price. I say to my self I rather deal with a pin shark than pay double or triple what the reasonable price of that pin should be.

On the other hand I've kicked myself many a time because the reserve price was the deal of the century.

Yes, I have to agree.....I will get scared off a bit. I have placed items for auction, but I will mention the reserve price in my description. My goal at starting low is just to attract attention. But some of those reserve prices are just SO insane. Totally goes against the idea of free market auction!
Some of the Buy It Now's are insane too....but at times I have picked a great deal that way!

I won't let a reserve scare me off ... on any auction I figure out what my personal maximum would be ... so with a reserve I know my personal max, enter it, and if reserve still isn't met then I go on my merry way, never looking back.

I just by pass them any more. I personally think if you want that price for it you should just list it as such. But I am a cheapskate anyway.

I don't bid on an auction with a reserve price since I was "bitten" by one as a novice bidder.

Did you know that if you bid by actually bidding your maximum on an ebay auction (like they want you to) and that amount is above the reserve your bid will jump right to the reserve? For instance, if the current bid is $5 and the smallest increase is $1 and you bid a maximum of $15 without a reserve in place, your bid on the auction will be $6. If the seller put a $10 reserve on the piece, your bid is now $10!

I just don't bid on anything with a reserve anymore. It's not the best way to get the best price and you may not even get the item if you have the high bid. As a seller, I don't use reserves either. I'll use a "Buy it Now" instead.
