I sit next to a guy that is so negative, so harsh, and so opinionated. He talks on the phone a lot and he's really loud, so I hear every conversation. Everything is negative and harsh.... he reads all these negative news stories to his wife over lunch (on the phone), and everything is so dramatized and he has an opinion for it all, and he never believes the "excuses", and everyone is just "stupid" or "bizarre" or whatever. It's hard to explain, but it's just so depressing and frustrating and I don't want to listen to it anymore.... I wake up happy, and I want to pull my hair out after listening to him for even 5 minutes in the morning. :headache: :headache: :headache:

Can anyone else relate. I'm going crazy here!!! :scared:

Ugh! I know many people like that. They are like gloom and doom all rolled up into one. I try to stay away from people like that but at work it is impossible. I don't have any advice, but I know where you are coming from.

Can you use an Ipod with earphones at work? (I'm assuming you're talking about work). When you sit so close to someone you can't help but hear all the drama in their life. Good luck.

I can relate. I got so sick of listening to the lady in the cube behind me at my last job that I went to my boss and got permission to wear headphones just so I could keep my sanity.

I think I've seen him on the Dis a lot lately! ;)

Ugh there's a lady that sits catty-corner across the wall from me that is JUST like that. I know more about her and her family than I know about my own!! Our dept got shifted around a few months ago, and I was not used to that kind of noise. I thought I was going to lose my mind for about 2 weeks, until my brain adjusted to tune out her "frequency". Just to get by, I had to buy one of those binaural (3-D sound) nature sounds CDs so I could drown out her voice!!

People who thrive on negativity are called "Negaholics". I stay away from them. I took a class at work called Attitude Awareness and it helped me learn how to deal with negativity at home and the workplace. I work with a couple people like that and it drives me nuts.

I've never heard that before! I worked for a lady with that condition. I so dreaded going to work to see her. Always a scowl on her face. Issues. Foul language. Picked a person a day to gossip about. Always drama. I tuned it out as best I could. Hard to do with such a whirligig.

Everyone is seeking energy. You can get it from beauty or you can steal it from other people. We all know someone who drains us. Stay away from them they steal your energy.

The Celestine Prophecies is a good book that explains this.

Think of listening to him as though he's saying it with Mickey mouse's high voice, to dis-empower his negativity. Then imagine yourself turning the volume down on him. Physically make the motion of turning the dial down. :listen:

Imagine his wife, on the other end of the phone is holding the phone so far away, while really watching her favorite tv shows, :happytv: & only pulling the phone to her, now & then only to mumble a noise of agreement, then back to the tv. popcorn::

If none of that works, imagine how bad it is for the wife & the people at the other end of the phone. Send them prayers of sympathy and a pink light of protection. Then say a silent prayer of thanks that, at least, he's not directing his talk to YOU!

You can send him prayers of compassion if you want, for he must be an extremely miserable man inside. Sometimes, the only redeeming quality these people have are that they are here to show us who NOT to become. And to be grateful for all the good, laughter & beauty in your life that you CAN appreciate.

If you only say one prayer in your life, let it be Thank You. ~Meister Eckardt
