can we carry our Harry Potter wands on the plane? Do they have to be checked?

We were just there last week and my son got a new wand. They said certain wands were no longer allowed in carry on and showed him which ones he'd be able to take. Most of the plain ones were allowed.

You can take it on the plane but it has to remain in your "Wand Holster" while in flight. Yes there is such a thing I learned that on this very forum.

Do they think it might really work? Ha Ha Ha

I guess it is just a good thing they allow them at all.

It is getting beyond crazy getting on a plane these days. I am in a wheelchair and I am given extra and through scrutney including the chair even when it is theirs as mine was already checked.

We tried changing to their chair to try to prevent what I had to go thru, nope still a deep check. I asked the lady if she realized that was an airport chair, she said yes, but it does not matter.

We tried that twice at two different air ports, same result.

I will tell you a funny but sad too story.

At the second airport, I was in the airport chair which means I cannot roll it and have to be pushed everywhere.

I keep mentioning I needed to go to the bathroom. They (My group I am talking about here) Just ignored me. So then I was yelling, I need to go now, still nothing. People that are not handicapped seem to ignore those of us that are. Esp if the handicapped person is really independent. And if I had been in MY chair, it would not have been a problem, but I was trapped.

Finally I peed on my shoe. THEN they took me. Luckily I keep a change of clothes and zippered bag in my carryon. Been there, had that problem before.

Anyway, thru security next, during the pat down the lady says your shoe is wet. I said I know because I peeded on it because noone would take me to the bathroom. SHe stood up and security check was over.

Your friends? That's awful. I'm sorry.

It is worse, family.

I am used to it. When I first became handicapped, I used to cry about it sometimes, but then I realized, they do not know they are doing it. No big deal now. I was just really fragile at first.

I had a heart to heart talk with my son and he apologized and said he just never thinks of me needing help. I usually don't, but I was trapped in that stupid chair.

We just got back flying from MCO-ATL- Small midwest airport. Both ways we had our wands in our carry on with not a blink (they are the interactive wands). I did have them in a USPO cardboard poster mailer because the original boxes are a bit bigger/bulkier. The real trouble is snacks, now those have to come out of backpacks.
Skylock, thank you for sharing your experience--I hope to be better aware now.

Thank you for your kind words.

I was a registered nurse for thirty something years and thought I knew. I didn't until I was in that situation. So I cut everyone some slack. But it can be frustrating sometimes.

Around home I pretty much have everything figured out. It is when I travel new obstacles pop up.

Glad they did not give you grief over your wands. My son flies 4 times a month, and he has a new story of what went on several times a month. I guess they keep changing things up so nobody knows the full routine.

Once as an able body person, I had a full body search because I had a pack of koolaid in my carryon. Unopened btw.

And just for the record, I do not FEEL handicapped.

Yes, so it's important to not take their little changes overly seriously, like the snack thing. Some poeple have to take snacks out. I never have. Wands are allowed by the TSA to the extent that they have a page dedicated to them. On two flights they wanted me to take my powdered supplements out and one agent tested them. On the flights I've taken since they don't care at all about them. etc.

I'm not talking about YOUR situation, by the way. Your situation was awful.

But just the general TSA agents getting twitchy about something one time then not the other...
