Is Universal Studios building a Harry Potter park. I heard several years ago it would be open in 2009 but have not heard anything since.

Hi Tigger,

It's actually a Harry Potter island that's going into the Islands of Adventure theme park. It will consist of rides, shops and dining and is expected to open in late 2010.

I quite interested to see what they'll be doing with the Harry Potter Island, I don't really like Harry Potter much but it's an interesting concept. I'll have to wait patiently to see :-)

i don't either, that's why i renamed him.

i am looking forward to what universal does with the addition.
they always do things great with the creative team they have.

many people do the rides of MIB, Simpsons, Shrek, Jaws, Mummy without ever seeing the original movie the ride was based on.
it has never taken away from their enjoyment of that ride by not knowing the background and tie in with the decor for the ride.

i figure it won't be a concern to me what parry hotter is about as the rides and attractions will be great no matter what.

@macraven:
Haha its a good name too haha. :scared1: Not seen the original films?! thats absurd they're all classics (well the mummy is a remake, but it was a good remake).

i have seen them all.
even though i have a job, i do get plenty of time to watch the flicks....

just think that if someone had never watched the movie ET, they might wonder what the heck is that ride all about......

of course if a person would be inebriated while on that ride, it would make total sense....

^^
same here (though without the job part and replace it with working on 1 years worth of assignments in 4 weeks).

I'm pretty sure its law to watch E.T. as a child, if not it should be haha (or maybe modern children don't like such films:confused3).

Just weighing in with the film watching. To prep my children for our upcoming visit, I'm renting as many films as possible that will explain the "back story" of the rides.

One recently was E.T. My kids are 11 and 8. They actually liked the film quite a bit. We all did remark how much slower the pacing of the film was in comparison to the films of today. My daughter was very upset when they were hurting E.T.!

So, I do think it's a classic film and one to show the kids. (I'm thinking however of skipping JAWS! :rotfl: )

Agreed. I will be interested as well to see what rides and attractions get put in.

Thats good, indeed films are so much quicker these days, I love the old slow style. Yes missing Jaws would be a good idea haha.

I think the Harry Potter island is a good idea for Universal as its something that children and families can relate to, I'm wondering what parts they're rethemeing of the Lost continent (I'm guessing the flying Unicorn is one) they're doing.

I have not heard an exact date for the HP park opening. Have heard only 2010 Going to universal IOA, HRH stay Jan 2010. Probably will miss the HP openining but that just means that I have to go back  If you go on screamscape.com they have some cool photos of the building thought to be Hogwarts. Correct me if I am wrong but I heard that Flying Unicorn is closed as it is behind partition that is for harry potter.
