Harry Potter movie SPOILERS

it was actually explained in the movie - doubledore tells harry that the ministry can detect when magic is used around underaged but can't tell who did it. so those who live in a magic family could do it and not get in trouble because the ministry wouldn't know if it was an older brother or parent.

it's why harry got in trouble when dobby used the hover charm with the cake. harry was the only person in the house the ministry knew knew magic therefore it had to be him.

Yeahh but the way I see it is that they weren't really in the Burrow at that point, it just seemed a bit odd. I mean you could use that explanation, but Harry never illegally uses magic outside school in the books even when he's in The Burrow (he and Ron are annoyed at having to peel potatoes by hand in the 6th book) and I thought the whole scene was a strange inclusion :confused3

right but mrs weasley would have knew they used magic and they would have gotten in a lot of trouble.

i'm also guessing that at the point where they are now using magic it is worth it to them if they got in trouble.

I totally agree, it was a strange thing to add. For what reason? You have a long book with alot of important information and you obviously can't include everything, but you add a scene not in the book that really doesn't mean anything? :confused3

If you haven't read the book in awhile, which I haven't, you really had to think about things to follow the movie. My sister re-read the book a couple weeks ago and followed the movie better, but she also remembered more about what was left out.

I just remembered one other thing that was left out- the whole Bill/Fleur romance. They weren't even in the movie at all. I wonder how that will get worked into Movie #7.
I noticed that too, and I heard they were casting Bill, so I know he's supposed to be in the seventh movie. I hope it makes sense next movie when that romance comes out of nowhere.

I didn't re read the book before seeing it last night and I came out of there thinking it was good. DD18 just finished re reading it 5 hours before the movie and she was pretty disappointed about things they left out.
This may be why I liked the movie so much, I last read the book right before Deathly Hallows was released. But I plan to read it again soon, I just need the time to go over to my parent's house and get it.

I don't mind the "taking out" BUT when they add...that's what turns me off.
I understand that everything from the book can't be added, but KEY points should be there. Harry being stunned and NOT being able to help Dumbledore, was much more effective in the book. Th horror that Harry has to witness and not being able to do anything was unbearable for me. I cried like a baby when I read the book. Not 1 tear during the movie!

The Burrow burning down? WHY? What was the point?
The waitress?
Don't ADD!

IMHO, I do think this movie followed the book more than the 3 before it did.
There were even lines that came directly from the book. Bottom line:

Did anyone else think that Snape was even better looking in this movie?
YUM YUM

I haven't seen the film yet, but from my understanding, the final battle scene at Hogwarts wasn't included b/c the last book has such a huge battle at Hogwarts, that the director felt that it would be redundant. They also cut the funeral scene b/c they felt that it didn't "flow" with the tone of the film. The funeral may be at the beginning of the next film.

I haven't seen it yet and sadly probably won't until the end of the week but I wanted to comment on Harry not being able to use magic outside of school. In book 5 we learned that underage wizards can use magic outside of school in life threatening situations. I am not happy about what I am hearing is added and what was not included but I am stoked to see it for what it is!

I really want to go and see it again already, and I almost never go to see movies in theaters twice.

i'll make a bet that there won't be any wedding so no need for a bill.

no intorducing luna's father so if they are going to have the trio go see him they'll have to come up with some other reason then the symbol in the book leading them to his house.

there is no house to have the wedding in unless they are going to magically rebuild the burrow?

my guess is that they will be at #12 and mr Wesley will give harry ron and Hermine their stuff from the will with no explanation

at this point i'm wondering who will go see the movie and still hasn't read the book? my guess is no one to very few

I thought the same thing but you'd be surprised at how many have not read the books :sad2: I saw it at midnight with a big group of my friends and 3 of them had only ever seen the movies. All of us that have read the books were kind of joking around, saying that we were going to ruin the ending because they can't pick up a book and read it (maybe this sounds mean but I really don't understand how someone can enjoy the movie series and not once think "Hey, maybe I'll like this book too") but they were getting mad so we didn't. Well later, someone decided to text one of those friends and tell them what happens. My friend got really angry and read the text way too loudly and the people sitting behind us got super angry and started yelling at my friend. I still don't understand the not reading the books thing...

Even though there are probably a dozen things we can complain about for this movie, I still totally loved it! So if you haven't gone yet, try to let go of the book a bit and enjoy the movie for what it is.

I think Ron did a really terrific job! And the movie is funny as heck.

Hello everyone, I too went to the midnight showing last night and was excited to see it. But I also have never read any of the books and really don't feel the need to.

I personally thought it was very strung out and boring, my uncle who came with me hoped he wouldn't be the oldest one there (52) he wasn't! A few came dressed up and I loved that and several had their wands as well and I didn't know why and then at the end, it was really nice they all raised them in the audience. A woman in front of me made a very rude comment to the kids next to her about raising their wand....I leaned up and said "Then don't come to a midnight showing!" That is the fun of it. No one was talking or yelling or anything, it was a very poignant moment in the movie.

I was never a fan of HP and didn't get the whole deal but the movie was well made and the kids are so grown up and I think their acting is top notch in this film. I just couldn't get into it, maybe it was too late but I was bored and my uncle fell asleep!!

I knew about what was going to happen BUT I didn't know how and that was QUITE surprising to me but I always had a feeling about that.

I will go see it again with my best friend who LOVES HP and has read all the books, maybe if I see it again I will like and understand it more.

OH MY GOD - you're the one - you're the one in a million that hasn't read the book

LOL just kidding

My parents haven't read the books either and I'm sure they'll go see the movie. Believe it or not they are a sucessful franchise even beyond the people who read the books.

I enjoyed the movie. I liked the romance/growing up and the acting was very good.

I missed things previously mentioned, but for the most part I think they will be able to fix it or add it to the last two movies.

My biggest concern was the complete lack of the Ministry of Magic and the other Minister. I understand if they want to cut out the other Minister, but I think one thing that really added to the mood and anxiety was the pressure people were feeling from the Ministry and how life, especially outside Hogwarts was becoming more uncertain. I wished they would've focused a bit more on that and actually bring in the Order of the Phoenix...I guess they will just show up at the beginning of the next movie.

Also perhaps they will be replacing the Burrow with Shell Cottage in the next movies.

I can't get over how well Daniel Radcliffe acted in this movie. I'm not a movie buff and I usually don't notice good or bad, especially with HP movies, but I was really taken aback by some of his scenes. Well done.

I felt the same way--his acting and everyone else's was PHENOMINAL!

Just got back. Other than the film ripping in half and missing the part where they are with McGonagal after the cursing of Katie it was great. We jumped from Harry, Ron, and Hermione with McGonagal to Harry and Ron in the dorm talking about love interests (after a ten minute break to fix the film), so I'm not sure how much we missed. Can anybody let me know?

wow, were people going crazy?

ETA_ I did love the actor that played the young Tom Riddle. He was outstanding.

me 2! I hope we see more of him--do we? I forget

After thinking about the movie again today, I realize I liked it more than I did last night--can't wait to see it again!

Ok, just back from seeing it today. Missed it last night as all 7 screens sold out very, very early. Most of the showings today are sold out too! :scared1:

IMHO, this was the best of the 6 movies out. The level of acting is so much better! I can't get over how much our dynamic trio has grown in their abilities! But, the movie was just so much better in general. It flowed much better, there were no "filler" scenes that could have been cut, what was cut out from the book was easily explained elsewhere (like the timing on Harry and Ginny's first kiss) or wasn't missed at all. For instance, the part of Harry getting Dobie and Kreacher to follow Draco was not there; nor did we need the scene. I felt like the movie did a very good job of letting you know exactly what was going on with Draco. In the last movie, I felt like so much was cut that there was no way to understand the movie without reading the book.

On the way home, dd asked me what had been changed and I really had to think about it. The one thing we couldn't remember was, did the Burrow burn in the book? And if not, wonder why that was put in the movie?

Count me as another one who hasn't read ANY of the books. I don't have time to read . I have seen all of the films and enjoy them very much. My two teen girls have read all of the books, so if I have questions, I just ask them. We haven't seen this one yet, but I'm sure we will by the end of the week.

Nope, that wasn't in the 6th book at all (though there is an incident involving The Burrow in the 7th book). The only thing I can think of is that Yates wanted to make the film slightly more action-packed, bringing in scenes such as The Burrow and the Millennium Bridge destruction at the beginning to spice tihngs up a bit :confused3 It didn't seem to add much depth to the plot - unless perhaps the slight exploration of Harry/Ginny's relationship.

DH and I just got back from seeing it and we loved it! I refused to reread the book right before seeing the movie. I did that for the last movie and was initially disappointed in the changes (I've grown to love it now, though).

We both loved the comedy, the kids' acting gets better and better, and I did shed a few tears for Dumbledore though I knew it was coming. Is it really that important that Dumbledore and Harry apparated out of Hogwarts? Nah, not to me. You just know they have to or may want to change some stuff, and since it was almost entirely faithful to the wonderful book, I'm OK with those changes.

We're seeing it again Saturday and I am looking forward to it.
