I am going to London and Paris in September. While there I had wanted to do the Harry Potter Oxford and Lacock locations tour but it is only on Saturdays and we will not be in London on a Saturday. I was wondering if anyone knew some of the locations for anything? I am thinking we will just take a trip out to there ourselves and go to the location. Also would we be better off just taking a trip out there on a day we are going back into London. Or wait and do it on the last day and then catch a train to Paris from Oxford?

you won't be able to catch a direct train from Oxford to Paris, you'd have to get a train back to London and then catch the Eurostar to Paris. That may influence your decision as to when to visit Oxford.

I am from Oxford and know that they filmed in Christ Church University which is the original great hall scenes. But as far as I remember no other places in Oxfod were used.

You can also get a coach back to London

Oxford's a lovely city and well worth a visit in its own right, but I think you might be disappointed if you go there looking for HP film locations.

I live near Lacock and it is a beautiful place to visit. They filmed in the cloisters of Lacock abbey for the first couple of films and the village was used in The Half Blood Prince as the location of Budleigh Babberton (where Slughorn was living).
See www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lacock/ for info on Lacock
To get to Lacock from London you would need to take the train from London Paddington to Chippenham and then maybe a taxi or bus to Lacock.

Hey pinkhart, I live near Lacock too :)

We are also considering going to Lacock Abbey while out in Oxford. Just need to figure out transportation for that as well lol. We had been planning to do Oxford either way. We also want to go to the town used as Godrichs Hallow.

Lacock and Oxford are not really that close; you might want to just pick one of them.

I looked up the distance online and it looks like Oxford and Lacock are about an hour apart which is completely fine with me. I may also look into just renting a car that day.

It's probably nearer an hour and a half by car. There is no easy way to get form Oxford to Lacock by public transport.

A few years ago we did the Harry Potter/Golden Compass locations. You have to pay a small fee to enter the colleges but mention to the porter that you're interested in the Harry Potter locations as he'll point out the way.

Christ Church College is where you'll see the great dining hall that they replicated for Hogwarts and also the stone staircase.

Divinity School at the Bodleian Library is Hogwart's hospital room and Duke Humfrey's Library is Hogwart's Library.

New College is where they filmed Harry, Ron and Hermione having an argument in the cloisters and also where the large tree is where Mad Eye turned Draco into a ferret.

Whilst you're in Oxford you may want to visit Alice's Shop (opposite Christ Church College) which really is The Old Sheep Shop in Through the Looking Glass. If you've read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy (the Golden Compass film) you can see Will and Lyra's bench and Pan's tree at the Botanical Gardens.

Finally, a great place to stop for lunch is The Eagle and Child where writers including C S Lewis and Tolkien used to meet (in the Rabbit Room).

Hope you have a lovely day. I love Oxford - it's one of the very few places I'd ever consider moving to! :goodvibes
