After seeing the movie this past weekend, and just finishing Goblet of Fire, something made me start thinking about the next movie.

Since the threads are moving now for reviews of POA, for those of you that have seen the movie, read the book or both, I am wondering what you are hoping for in the 4th movie.

For instance, what are you hoping is in the next movie that you find significant in the 4th book, but think it could be cut out? I think many agree of a few scenes in the latest film that could have been lengthened, or even parts of the book left out that we thought were significant enough, but just didn't happen in the movie.

Also, what parts do you feel could be left out of the next movie?

Lastly, what parts would you yourself be upset about if it was left out?

I also wonder if GOF will be even darker than POA - After finishing GOF, it was just scarier to me than the others - alot darker and I began to wonder how they would portray that in the film.

So, any and all opinions from fellow Harry Potter fans! Thought it would be fun to try and predict the 4th movie :teeth:

I think the films will get a little bit darker each time. I'm not sure right now what I want to see left in, or get cut, from GoF. I just started re-reading PoA last night and will read GoF again after that.

I just started re-reading GOF again too, but once I get into it a bit more, I'll definatly be posting!

I want them to include the school dance and for Harmionie to look lovely.

I want them to make GoF into 2 movies - like the Matrix or something...no way could one fit the 'essence' of this book into 2.5 hours.

the ending of GoF alone, in the cemetary, I bet would take 30 minutes to tell fully.

Well, I've been reading about how they are starting the film at the Quidditch World Cup, no Privet Drive scenes. This, of course, is already somewhat disappointing in that the scene where the Weasley's break through the fireplace would be hysterical, along with the Ton Tongue Toffee. Oh well, I guess not:(

I would think that they will have to show us The Weasleys and Harry travelling to the World Cup because they need to show the importance of a portkey for the later part of the film.

I'm looking forward to seeing the dragons for the first task of the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

I'd also love to see Fred and George trying to get around the age line for entry into the tournament and the consequences. I just love Fred and George. But alas, (I sound like Dumbledore;) ) that is just the kind of scene which will most likely be too "small" to make it into the film.

BTW, good idea for a thread.

My thoughts exactly!::yes:: I've already told my family if it isn't a 2 parter it won't be worth seeing. This one was bad enough with stuff left out. To do the GOF justice it'd need to be like a 7 hour movie.

Im worried they are going to condense it to much...of the 5 books, Goblet of Fire is my favorite! Please dont ruin it!

HOw long till the 6th book?

If I'm not mistaken, the original plan was to make it into 2 movies, but the director of GoF convinced them to just make it one.

Maybe it'll be close to 3 hours?

There is no proper breaking point for two films. It needs to be done in one, I think, and I see why WB agrees.

No ton-tongue toffee (Don't mind though....I thought it was kind of gross in the book), probably a very shortened Quidditch World Cup. The actual story of GoF doesn't start moving until around page 300 anyway.

There will be a Yule ball, I've heard, so yay. Cho Change has been cast....her name is Katie Leung. Daniel Radcliffe has just been certified in scuba diving for a month of underwater shooting, so that task is in. All three tasks will definitely be in and Newell wants to focus on the finale.

I bet Rita Skeeter is reduced, or even eliminated. Same with SPEW. I hated those subplots anyway. However, I do hope they do a bit with Ron's jealousy though, because it would give Rupert something to do besides be comic relief.

OK, I am sitting here with the book, so real "quick" I will try to do this. Now I would sit for a three hour movie if they made it. I also feel that every part is important, but they just can't have all of it so here it goes....

Ch 1 The Riddle House ~ Does not have to be in the movie
Ch 2 The Scar ~ Also does not need to be there, maybe a quick thing about his scar hurting, but that is it.
Ch 3 The Invitation and Ch 4 Back to the Burrow ~ Have as a starting point, can be done in 10 minutes with out too much problem
Ch 5 ~ Only parts that may be "needed" is the reference to Bertha and Percy working at MofM now
Ch 6 The Portkey ~ They really need to at least include a real quick explanation of this part and show them going to the match

OK, you know what, this will take forever if I go chapter by chapter!!! They can cut out a lot of little things leading up to the Tri-Wizard, but need to have George and Fred as well as when Harry's name is pulled. Also can cut out the lead up to the dance, there is quite a bit of that and it can all be done in one or two scenes, as well as having the dance be pretty short as far as the movie goes. I think they will need to focus on the three events in particular the third one. As much as I hate to see anything cut out, I can see a lot of things that are not "neded" as far as the movie. Oh well, we will just have to wait for Noember of 2005 I guess!

if they think GoF is problematic, wait until they get to OoTP! That's a loooooonnnngggg book.

ITA - those are 2 subplots that could really be done without...not TOO major to the book

oo - i just remembered the 2nd task...wonder what Harry(Daniel) will look like for that!

I hope that they include scenes re Ron's feelings for Hermione. In POA, I felt that they could have made Ron more responsive to Hermione because it's very apparent in the later books that he has feelings for her. (sorry, I'm just a romantic at heart!)

The movie will be much darker I think because of the ending. I'm kind of wondering how my DS 12 and DD 10 will handle that. In any case, I can't wait for GOF to be released.

I totally agree, the cemetery scene took up several chapters. I just read that the original plan was for 2 movies, but the director of POA convinced the new director to make it just one (gee thanks!) I was looking at the two books after we got home from POA and GOF is 300 pages longer, how can they possibly make that one movie???????

I agree also that it will be much darker than this one. That cemetery stuff was very intense and scary, it will be very interesting.

That said, as long as I get my fill of Rupert Grint, I'll be happy!!! I just love that kid!!!!!!!!!!

Love all of the comments regarding wanting GOF into two movies.

I think that would have been a great way to do it - or else atleast make it a 3 hour movie. I am so afraid that important aspects will be left out, and that always upsets me!! But, I get over it - I got over it with the changes in POA, as I have seen it 3 times already.

And while elgerber wants her fill of Rupert (I do like him!), I just wanna see Daniel - sometimes I just wanna hide my head for having a little crush on him. I haven't had a crush since highschool - and while that hasn't been that long ago, it still feels like ages!

Guys, they CAN'T eliminate either Rita or Spew, as both of them establish fairly important points that return in OotP...Who's gonna write the story about Harry if it isn't Rita ? And who is going to be preaching about how they should treat house elves better (even the dispicable Treacher) if not Hermione ? JK Rowling did those little things intentionally to set up more important events later in the story, so cutting them might not hurt people that read the books, but it will take something away from it for those that didn't.

I'm REALLY nervous about this movie though, as GoF is one of my favorite books. Period...not just Harry Potter. Still, I haven't been too upset by anything done in the first three movies, so I'm hoping for the best......But I agree with the sentiments expressed here so far: the movie is gonna have to be LONG to cover everything of importance.

i liked the way they did it though.

Remember when they came out of the whomping willow? Harry went off to talk to Sirius and Hermione stayed with Ron and his broken leg
H - "Does it hurt much?"
R- "Oh yeah...loads...they might have to cut it off"
H - " Oh!"

hehehe...I thought it was very simple flirting...done well and subtly on Ron's behalf.

I always laugh about the whole S.P.E.W (remember, it is NOT spew) hehe. I do hope they include that as well as Rita - they play a big part in GOF (atleast in my mind they do). I just wanted to reach in that book and strangle Rita - makes my blood boil just thinking about her!

I am not even half way done with OOTP yet (on page around 370 I think), so I am eager to see the connections in that book.

I hope they show more Ron/Hermione bickering - it is that "I like you" bickering - like when a boy hits you (not like beat up, either), you know he likes you? The love tension is there - can't wait to see it play out in the film, though.

Of course they can eliminate Rita. She would just be introduced as an untrustworthy reporter who writes rubbish nobody believes in OoTP. Or they could make her a reporter for the Quibbler, which is a magazine no one believes in anyway.

And Hermione can have a few lines about treating house-elves better without having a whole elaborate SPEW thing.
