Harry Potter Fans!

Me! Me! I love Harry Potter and can't wait to go! I'm going in June to US for a day so I will be sure to see it hopefully. Headed straight for Potter when I get there.

This fall, I'm going back with hubby and we're going to stay at US a couple of days before we go on our cruise and then on to WDW. He loves Potter too!

Yay!!! So glad to find this thread!! :cool1:

I'm a hugeeee HP fan. Planned a universal/disney trip about the moment it came out - at the time they were shooting for late 09, but possibly early 2010. Our original date was to go Feb 2010 (this was back in 08!!) but we decided not to chance it and moved the trip to October (coincides w/ my birthday too). Never been to Universal Orlando, but love the one in Hollywood (though I know Orlando's is going to be much bigger!).

We have 7-day tickets and currently plan to spend 2 full days at Universal (and 8 at Disney!!!) but I figure that if the HP park is soooo amazing that we want to go back, at least we'll be able to!

Disney can't be too upset...we prob wouldn't have planned a trip for 2010 to Disney if it weren't for the HP park opening!! (well, it was certainly a good excuse to convince DH we HAD to go back to Disney again!).

Anyone been to the HP exposition? It just ended in Boston. It was AMAZING. I wish I could have gone more than once but missed out...

Oh and I'm about 50/50 Ravenclaw/Gryffindor. Fave book? Maybe GoF, OotP (can't decide). I like HBP. I *think* I liked the last one, but I've read the others so many more times that it's hard to say I loved it, you know? Can't wait for the movies though.

And yes - will definitely be buying a wand!! Though I already have HP's and a friend made me another. They're on my mantel at home (drives DH crazy...hahahaa). :rotfl:

I've read all the books and seen the movies. I'm a fan, and when the park opens, I'll add a day to my next Disney trip to see it.

BUT.......... (and I know I'm going to get slammed for this)......... my expectations are pretty low. I'm just not excited about it.

1. I'm not a huge Universal fan. They have a few nice attractions, but much of it is either bad, or needs a huge overhall (Jaws, for example). They also don't keep up the theming like Disney does. Got love waiting in a line and turning a corner to see a dumpster. Worse, they are terrible at handling crowds. On my last visit, the posted wait time for The Mummy was 45 minutes. We were in line for 2 1/2 hours (and there were no breakdowns).

2. I'm not excited by what I see in the previews for Potter-land. It just looks like a bunch of shops, restaurants, and a couple re-vamped rides. I was pretty irritated when I heard one of their big attractions was just the Dragons coaster re-dressed.

Their big, secret new attraction is the one thing that has me interested/excited.

I know JK Rowling didn't want it to be a "theme park." She was more interested in you getting the feel that you were in Harry's world. If they pull it off, it could be cool, but I'm worried.

And sorting? I've been sorted a couple times on the internet, and, even if I answer the questions exactly the same way, I come out in a different house each time. Generally seems pretty random to me.

Sorry to be a sour-puss... I'm really hoping that with my expectations being low, I'll be overwhelmed and impressed.

We were almost going to go this fall, but decided on DLR for new years instead because we wouldn't have to fly.

I'm like...50/50 on this. When I first saw it I literally squealed and jumped up and down! BUT....after looking at the website a lot...i'm worried it could be very lame. Seeing what a small part of the park it's going to be is what made up our minds. There's nothing else in Universal we want to see or do, so it just wouldn't be worth the price.

That said, we do still want to try to go. The thought of being able to feel like im "in" Hogsmeade seems really cool! I think we'll be waiting to see what kind of reviews it gets. Plus, we're hoping DH can get orders to Florida at some point, and are waiting to see about that before we make any solid travel plans for there.

I always get Slytherin on the sorting quizzes! OK with me tho, lol.

I'll be in Orlando this July for Infinitus, and then after the convention, I'll be heading over to WDW for a week. Can't wait!

LOVE IT!!
I'm actually re-reading the series right now, and last week my friend and I watched 4 of the movies, and looked up HP recipies ha!:lmao:

A friend & I are planning a trip down to Orlando in Feb 2011 to spend 4 days at Disney, and 1 at Orlando, and we probably won't leave the HP park!

I'd probably end up in Slytherin, not going to beat around the bush haha!

I can't wait either! I have the audiobooks on my ipod and listen to them while I sew. I have read the books them selves numerous times. I can't wait to walk into Hogsmede. I so want to buy a wand! We are going November 2 - 9 and will go to IOA for a day for HP. My mom & I are huge fans - we are getting my oldest (who is 6) into it too! She loves the first two movies so far. I can't wait for her to be more interested in reading the books.

As for the movies - my mom and I go see them when they come out - HBP was the first one we were ever disappointed in. We are fine that the books have to be adapted to make a movie or they would all be like 6 hrs long but when you add a scene in the middle that was not in the books it just doesn't make sense! and what happened to the fight at the end!?! That is a huge part of the book and the storyline. How are they going to wrap up all of that in the 7th/8th movie? The house elves play a huge part in the 7th book IMO and I can't see how they will bring them in to the 7th/8th after leaving them out since ***. oh Doby - will you get your due respect or will they cut you out?

I was really hoping spring 2010 meant April, but Ive seen a couple of places that the first date for ticket sales is for May 28th. So it will probably be July 2011 before we make it :(

I read somewhere on the internet that they cut out the battle at the end of the HBP film because they thought it would be too similar to the big battle at the end of DH.

I also heard that at one point, they were going to cut Kreatcher (sp?) out of the OOTP film, but Rowling said they had to keep him in because he was important in DH. So that sounds like we will see the house elves again.

I can't wait to see WWoHP but worried about planning a trip there this year, I want to make sure all the bugs are out and the crowds have died down a bit before I take on the expense of traveling there.

I am playing around with the idea of visiting Universal Dec 2011 after our DCL Dream sailing. I've not been to Orlando w/o visiting WDW though so it'd be a stretch for me to not go and visit my favorite mouse.

Maybe I'll just have to do both!

Hey DISers! I'm going to Orlando on Sunday, Sept. 13th. And I'm hoping to get to Universal on that Tuesday. Any matches? Lemme know!

i really hoped that the park would have opened sooner however we'll miss the park opening this time - and I really hope to make it perhaps in the fall ... the summers are too busy. let me know how much fun it is!

If you're coming at the beginning of May, you both may find WWOHP in "soft opening" status. That means it may be operating, it may not, and if operating, perhaps only for limited hours. As your trip draws near, keep your eyes glued to the various bulletin boards to see what people are saying. You might get to experience it during your visits.

every HP test I take I get put in either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

I can't wait to see the new HP world! It might be some time until I can afford it though :(

OMG I ALSO have two harry potter tattoos. How AWESOME are we? lol. I too cannot wait to go to WWoHP. We are going about a week and half after it opens. I think those who really love the books AND movies will really appreciate the park. I'm going with a twilight-er (I know I know...) and I can't wait to be like, "hm...would you rather be here or in a town in the middle of nowhere with some melodramatic vampires?" hahahaha. [not bashing twilighters, I don't want to start THAT debate!]
I have loved both the movies and the books. I know the movies are not the same as the books (I wish they were. People who only see the movies do not know how hilarious some of the characters are!) but I still like them!

and btw, while I do love ALL the movies, I was slightly disappointed in the last movie as well. Even if they downplayed the ending fight, they took out some things I would have really liked to see, like Dumbledore putting the Dursleys in their place, Harry & Ginnys relationship, etc. (And can John Williams PLEASE change up the score??) But I am really looking forward to both the park AND the future movies. LOVE HP!:wizard:

DGF and I are huge Harry Potter fans, we read all 7 books last year for the first time together and loved them! But they actually made us a little disappointed in the movies lol.

We would love to go to the WWoHP but our trip is in May so we won't make the opening plus our plan is to spend our whole trip at Disney since it's been a while for both of us since we've been. But we will definitely have to make a special trip there some time.

Gryffindor all the way! :wizard:

I am very excited for the Wizarding World to open since I'm a huge HP fan. I'm also planning on going to Infinitus in July.

Does anyone know if there are going to be any celebrities around for the opening of the Wizarding World?
