8:00, Saturday July 16th. I was grumpily awoken by the very large, and heavy, 6th Harry Potter book being thrust on my bed by my mother who had already been to the grocery store this morning. I dive into it, barely having time to put on my glasses so I can even see this glorious book. 70 pages in, and all I can say is WOW.

I feel pretty bad at the thought of Malfoy dying though, he should be punished for what he does, not because he-who-must-not-be-named is mad at his father.

I was also really confused at the thought of Voldemort drinking Harry's blood, when did this happen :confused3

:wizard:

Okay, that's it. I'm getting dressed NOW and going to get it!! :teeth:

Didn't Voldemort drink his blood at the end of GoF? Or maybe I am confused. I think he was going to TRY to drink it, but then Harry defeated him in the battle?? Darn...I'm gonna have to go reread it now.

I finished it this morning, if you think your sad now just WAIT! I couldn't believe the ending.

Finished?!?! :faint:

I'm finished too. 4 hours of non-stop reading.

Semi-spoilers below so skip if you want a completely spoiler-free post...

TOTALLY surprised at who the HBP is. Not at all suprised at who died at the end, I would have been surprised if that person hadn't died.

And I think that there is more to the youngest Malfoy then we have seen so far.

My guess for book 7? The HBP will sacrifice himself at the end to destroy Voldemort and save Harry.

Harry's blood was part of the potion that returned Voldemort to full strength and power- flesh of the servant, bone of the father, blood of the enemy. Voldemort didn't drink it however, Wormtail added it to the potion in the cauldron where Voldemort's incomplete form was submerged.

As much as I'm trying to deny it, it looks like Harry will be the only sacrifice. Consider:

1. We know that Voldemort left something of himself in Harry during the attack at Godric's Hollow.

2. In order to defeat LV, Harry must destroy the horcruxes. If horcruxes can be living beings... :(

As for the actual Half Blood Prince, didn't JKR say somewhere that he would redeem himself? I have to say, it would take a monumental action on his part to accomplish that now!

Yes, I'm finished with HBP - still letting everything sink in, though the tears have stopped now.

OK, lets stop beating around the bush. Since this is the spoilers thread----just be out with it---what happens in this story.

not reading thread yet, waiting for my book to arrive by UPS, just wanted to subscribe. DS has his book, but he will not let me touch it. :( that is ok though, I have the Deluxe edition coming. Pay backs are sometimes awful. lol

I agree! Tell us more!

Arrgh. Some of the events surrounding the main plot are so horrible I can't even form coherent thoughts about them, much less type them out. On a lighter note, the shipping sure gets turned up a notch - there's probably equal time devoted to that entire angle! Just in case people do want to avoid specific spoilers, I'll try hiding the font - highlight to read it. After some arguments and teasing from Ginny and the Twins (the arguments caused by her romance with Dean Thomas), Ron ends up hooking up with Lavender Brown in a series of really squirmy moments. Lavender's jealousy over Hermione provides Ron with the opportunity to bolt after a while; however, R/H shippers are going to have to wait for any visible progress in that relationship. Harry wrestles with guilt after realizing that he's smitten with Ginny (who is with Dean Thomas at the time and, to Harry's mortification, his best friend's sister, of course). Given Ron's reaction to Ginny's past boyfriends, Harry worries a great deal about this until a spontaneous moment after a Quidditch match. At the end of the book, however, *sob* Harry tells Ginny that they have to break up to protect her from LV's attention and potential use as a pawn against Harry. Fleur and Bill are planning a wedding, which upsets several Weasleys as they find Fleur quite annoying, but in the end she redeems herself beautifully by sticking by Bill after he's dreadfully injured fighting DE's. The last, and I think biggest, revelation, is Tonks' love for Remus Lupin: she uses Fleur's continued love for Bill to challenge Lupin's belief that his condition prevents him from having a relationship, and Molly backs her up. It's nice to think that Lupin can find love and acceptance, so now I really, really hope both of them make it through Book 7.

If you are really sure....

Basically the book surrounds Harry and Dumbledore's search for Horcruxes- pieces of a soul left behind intentionally when an evil wizard murders someone. Voldemort split his soul into (at least) 7 pieces and left 6 of them them behind in magical enchanted items and at least one living being- his snake Nagini. That is why he was not killed when his curse on the baby Harry backfired- most of his soul is stored elsewhere. 3 have already been discovered and destroyed. There are 4 left, one inside Voldemort, one in the snake, and (at least) 2 others. He will not be able to be killed until/unless the remaining Horcruxes (Horcruxi?) are destroyed along with their bits of Voldemort's soul.

Oh.My.God. :sad1:

The end is horrible. I cried. DH laughed at me and wouldn't believe that the person who died is really dead. :(

just finished it, started reading at 9am this morning. WHEW! What a ride. Sad but not surprised at the death. Totally shocked by the HBP bit.

Hi - I'm Kim's daughter, Kelley, and I'm in a word... desperate to discuss the contents of this book (because I'm a hopeless nerd.) I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who cried.

So Snape - is he really a bad guy? or is he part of the plan? How could Dumbledore know about Draco's mission and not know about the "Unbreakable Vow?"

Also, slightly disappointed though I was at the fact Ron and Hermione didn't finally have their epiphany and realize they are in love... I an avid H/G shipper was very happy to see Harry realize his feelings for Ginny. No more of that dern Cho Chang...

Is Harry going to find more about his Parents? While it's does not appear relevant to the battle with Voldemort anymore, won't he still want to know? I was a little disappointed at the lack of background about his parents in HBP. Also, Harry has never been to Godric's Hollow before, so I'm thinking he might find a lot of answers...

Though when they do go to Godric's Hollow - will it really only be Hermione and Ron with him? Because last time Ginny, Neville and Luna insisted on going.

Also the Horcruxes, the cup, the necklace, the book (destroyed), the ring(destroyed), the snake, whatever the ravenclaw heirloom is, and then the mystery Horcrux...

yeah lots and lots of stuff to think about.

I think Snape is a bad guy in the sense that Darth Vader is a bad guy. NOt truly evil, but coerced/forced to do evil things by circumstances and misguidance, and ultimately redeemable. I truly think the final battle will be a 3-way, much like the final Star Wars, btween Voldemort, Harry, and Snape. There are many many many parallels between SW and HP (and any hero epic in general- anyone who knows that genre knew that Dumbledore has to die at some point so Harry can fight the final battle himself).

I think Harry will find out much more about his parents at Godric's Hollow, and perhaps even a Horcrux. I think Harry will keep Ginny out of it, which will turn out to be a mistake. Spunky girlfriends/princesses have a way of turning the tide... Princess Leia never missed what she was shooting at ;)

Any guesses as to HEB is? I have some thoughts but I'll wait to hear what everyone else thinks first.

Great book, can't wait for the next one. :)

4 hours? damn! It took me around 10! (I'm a slow **** readed evidently!)

first off - the word SLUT was in this book? I. Am. Shocked.

The second chapter enthralled me.

The ending made me cry.

Incredible book.
