Harry Potter books????

DS7 reads the HP books over and over again, he would walk around school in 1st grade, with his nose in these books, banging into anyone in his way.

I would not worry about a 12 year old reading them. I agree, the reviews were probably by people who had not read them. Yes, they are darker, but not evil, dangerous, ect.

DS10 will not watch PG 13 movies because he ends up with nightmares; but he has read all the HP books with no problem.

We are planning on going again once it comes out in IMAX. I have to wait till the 29th to see it Any idea on why such the difference in release dates??

The IMAX theatres were committed to Transformers thru the 28th before they announced the HP release date.

The Host is also by Stephenie Meyer. I thought because I loved the Twilight series so much, I'd get into The Host. It deals with alien souls taking over for their host body. Eh, we'll see...

It was slow going for me in the beginning, but it really picked up later. I don't read much sci fi, but I do like sci fi movies. Its not Twilight, but I think it was a much better writing effort on Stephenie Meyer's part. I recommend you try to finish it.

I read the books outloud, unedited, to DS8 last year (when he was 7). Yes, they get dark, but nothing too bad. I see worse in the news.

Yeah, my first thought seeing the OP's post was, "Huh, I read IT when I was twleve." Also Lovecraft and a whole slew of adult literature.

HP is tame by comparison.

I think they're fine - I was reading Stephen King at that age! Dd12 has read worse than that, and I know many kids who finished HP series in 3rd or 4th grade.
