Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

I never thought that he would bury it with Peverell. (Sp?)
I always thought that Dumbledor was the true owner (He won it after all.) Do any of you know when this so called "encyclopidia" of J.K.'s will be published. I have heard talk about it but I don't really now if it is true.

I want to make a memorial in my signature of all the people who died throughout the series but do you think it is to soon? Would it still be considered a spoiler?:confused3

Love the pic in your siggy, DWLuvr!!! (and yeah, I think it's too early)

I finished a few days ago (b/c I wanted to reread 6 first, and also wanted to savor every new word!!!), and have felt at such a loss!!! I sobbed the last 200 pages!!!

I know the epilogue was simplistic, but I like, as JK said, that she was just showing that Harry was at peace, and enjoying what he had always wanted - a family. She did a good job of wrapping up the whole 7 book series. But I'm so sad to never have a new HP book to sink my teeth into!

Just need to say... I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!!

oh, one more thing...I'm so proud of Harry as he journeyed into adulthood. Got the sense by the end that he finally moved on from his whiny teenage phase!!!;) :rotfl:

p.s. Go Mrs. Weasley!!! You rock, Girl!!!:cool1:

Ummm ... Harry and Ginny dated in the 6th book (pg. 534 paperback) -- they got together after they won the last quidditch match. Harry broke it off only once w/her. They weren't continually breaking up. He broke up w/her for her safety. Harry knew what he had to do and didn't want her to get involved b/c he knew Voldemort would hurt the people that he loved the most and he didn't want Ginny hurt. And, he did tell that to Ginny "Voldemort uses people his enemies are close to. He's already used you as bait once, and that was just because you're my best friend's sister. Think how much danger you'll be in if we keep this up. He'll know, he'll find out. He'll tray and get to me through you." Ginny then states she doesn't care and Harry says he does b/c he doesn't want to have to attend her funeral knowing it was his fault. This is in Half Blood Prince pg. 646 paperback version. Harry's feelings for Ginny don't vanish in book 7 -- he often wonders about her, misses her, wishes he had word from her, etc. Plus, we don't know what happened right after the battle and the 19 yrs. later. During the 19 "empty" years inbetween the end of book 7 and the epilogue gives plenty of time to develop a relationship in. I'm sure after Voldemort was defeated, Harry and Ginny picked up where they left off.

Also, early in Half-Blood Prince, when Slughorn is brewing the Amortentia love potion that's supposed to produce smells that attract you, and Harry smells a treacle tart (his favorite dessert), the wood of broomstick handle (since he loves flying), and "something flowery he thought he might have smelled at The Burrow."

Later in the same chapter, Ginny walks up behind him and "he caught a sudden waft of that flowery smell he had picked up in Slughorn's dungeon."

Ginny also seemed to go through a lot of boyfriends--I think she'd been waiting for Harry all along. ;)

Alright, I was way behind all of you, but I finally finished this morning! Great great book! But, so much crying!!! I sobbed when Dobby died and then Fred pushed me over the edge. Ron, Fred and George are my favorites, why did she have to kill Fred??? I was so happy though, that she did FINALLY put Ron and Hermione together!

p.s. Go Mrs. Weasley!!! You rock, Girl!!!:cool1:

Just found this thread and glad someone mentioned this. I think it was my favorite line in the book. If they keep that in the movie, I swear I will stand up and cheer:goodvibes

Mine too, I was finally able to laugh through my tears with that line, it was great!!!

Ah ha! Good catch!

Ginny has liked Harry for the longest time but it seems like he showed more feelings toward Choe(Sp?) than he did with Ginny.

She just seems so young to me. I don't know why but there is just something about their relationship that bothers me.

Also ... remember how shy Ginny was around Harry when he arrived (via flying Ford Anglia) in HP&CoS? She knocked over her porridge bowl, blushed furiously, etc. Seems like Ginny was crushing on Harry before he discovered her. He was def. into Cho (esp. in book 4) and Ginny was busy w/her suitors. Sure, it might've been a "girlhood crush" but I think it developed into more. Harry began seeing that Ginny was a lovely young lady and he started to like her as well.

She's only a year behind Harry & Ron. I think what bothers you (maybe?) is that she's the sister of Harry's best friend. That kind of stuff isn't supposed to happen! Also, I think we've watched Harry grow up and mature, but haven't seen it in Ginny b/c it's not written. Sure, she battles here and there, etc. but in our minds, Harry grows in front of our eyes and Ginny stays as young as when we first met her at King's cross wishing Harry luck as he pushes through Platform 9 3/4 for the first time.

I think that you are right on both accounts. I don't feel I ever really seen Ginny as anything other than Ron's little sister. I know that Ginny has liked Harry since before he even thought about her. I do remember that he saved her in the Chamber of Secrets.

Now i like that thought Dudley having a little wizard of his own...

I like this idea too. Dudley showed some maturity and heart at the beginning of Deathly Hallows, and I expected him to appear again at the end of the book or at least in the epilogue. Petunia also had some moments in books 5 or 6 where they hinted she might come around a bit. I would like to know what happened to them.

The encyclopedia JKR has mentioned won't be out for quite a while, but it's fun to speculate about our friends.

I also LOVED the Mrs. Weasley line. I hope they do keep it in the last movie, but I don't think there's been any profanity in any of the other HP movies (haven't seen them all).

I know I'm planning a 2010 trip to Universal Studio's Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I will miss reading the books and wonder what JKR will come up with next.

I really apologize if a bunch of this has been said already. I only read to page 17 before I had to post so my DH could use the computer. So here goes! I loved the book! It was a lot like I thought it would be and was well worth the wait.

I don't know if this is the reprieve everyone is talking about but Mr. Weasley was supposed to die in book 5. She gave this tidbit in an interview. Hagrid was never supposed to die because when she drafted the story it was with the intent that Hagrid would carry Harry from a battle at the end of the series.

Lupin and Tonks were always supposed to die. Their death is reminiscent of James and Lily, but instead of being shunned their child would get to live in peace with the wizarding community.

Harry and Ron become Aurors. Hermione works for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Interview with the Today Show.

Keep in mind that Lily and James were only 20 or so years old when they died. They hadn't been out of school too long, and with Voldermorte alive at the time, and James with a family fortune, they may have spent all their time with the Order and not really had jobs. Hence their lack of mention.

A couple characters I was surprised were missing: Moaning Myrtle and Fawkes. I thought sure Fawkes would come back to Harry, esp after Hagrid died.

I really thought that when Ron and Hermione disappeared during the battle prep they had gone to ask Myrtle if she knew anything...I mean, she died when he was at school so she could have had the information all along!

It's at the beginning of chapter 35, King's Cross.
Yeah, I've seen it a lot in movies; it's a bit tired. Except here, instead of white room, it's an empty train station. And what was with the "creature" in the room? :confused3 That was weird. But I did like the end of it, where Dumbledore told him it was all in his head.

The creature seemed to me to be like the Voldermorte the Wormtail lifts up at the end of Goblet of Fire, before he has his body back.

Ok, I finally have a chance to post a little more of my thoughts.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned (might've missed it though, I was reading through here quickly before a quick trip into work) is Harry addressing Voldemort by his real name. I thought that was pretty powerful there. Harry always showed a little less fear than everyone else by not being afraid to say his name (Voldemort) but Dumbledore always took it a step further, unafraid to use his birth name. So as they were facing off at the end, I thought it was pretty symbolic for Harry to address him as Tom Riddle - showing that he no longer feared him, didn't see him as anyone more special or more powerful than anyone else.

Kept wanting to find out what was going on at Hogwarts, but now that I've read the whole thing and have had a little time to reflect, I think it was a very smart decision on Rowling's part to keep it away from the story. I think it really makes the readers feel just as separated from "society" as Harry, Ron and Hermione were. The only thing they knew outside of their experiences were these tiny snippets, like when Ron left, when they got the radio to work, etc. They had to work with very little knowledge of what was happening outside.

Also liked the Dumbledore stuff. We spent six books with this idealized figure - omniscient and infallable. In this one we see that even the best of men have their faults, but it doesn't make them any less "good" in the end. It also ties into the recurring theme of the series that things aren't always what they seem to be. There are always characters in each book that end up shattering our first impressions.

I think I need to read about 3 more times to really digest everything though, LOL. LOTS going on here.

I love your post! I completely agree and you say it all so well!!!

I didn't have time to read the whole thread, but I wanted to ask my questions before I leave for work! Sorry if the answers are somewhere in pages 6-15 of the thread!

1) HOW did Dumbledore get the wand from Grindelwald if it was a wand that could never lose a duel? Was that ever explained? Or am I not understanding the Elder Wand?

2) HOW did Neville get the sword back from the goblins? The last we saw of the sword was at Gringotts, and the goblin had it, correct? The 3 escaped on the dragon without the sword, and all of a sudden Neville pops up with it at the end?

They never say that the battle between Dumbledore and Gridelwald was too the death, so I assume he won it by wit. I don't think the wand had to defeat through killing.

Can Goblin made pieces be enchanted? Its entirely possible that the sword was enchanted to always return to its rightful owners, Gryffindors!

I got a kick out of book 7 when Cho is supposed to show him the way to Ravenclaw and Ginny puts her foot down - that made me smile.

Could it be that Snape didn't really kill Dumbledore either? Dumbledore engineered his own death. It was the killer of Dumbledore that couldn't enter the house, which was really Dumbledore wasn't it?

Actually, I didn't think much of the protective spells at Grimmauld Place. A loud voice and a fake ghost? I wouldn't think it'd take too much to get through that.

I'm really glad this was pointed out, because I wouldn't have thought to look more into this otherwise. I think it definitely was because Snape and Dumbledore had the agreement, and it wasn't necessarily a murder. As far as faulty protection goes, I agree that it seemed pretty lame considering the strength of the magic we know the can do. I'd like to think it was better than it sounds, and had Snape turned out to be a bad guy it would have done something terrible when he went back to house

You guys have some interesting guesses about stuff...in case you havn't read it you need to go here...http://www.bloomsbury.com/harrypotter
Wait for it to load and off to the right you will see a link to a chat with JK. you can either watch or read it there it answers a ton of the questions you guys are debateing about.

To answer a few q's for you...

Snape entered the house before the protection was added(strait from jk's mouth- see above transcript)

Same way Harry did...Help will always come to those that ask at Hogwarts...rememebr harry put the hat on his head in Chamber and though he needed a weapon..same with Neville. As for goblins enchanting it..nope...just the same as it is NOT thier propety (again see the transcript above)

It's at the beginning of chapter 35, King's Cross.

Yep it's what Moldy Voldy is being forced to spend his afterlife as.

Not anytime soon! She's working on 2 other books right now...a kids and an adult..she doesn't know which will be done first. She knows that someday she will do the encylopedia but she's sure it will be quite a while before she gets to it.

My guess is that we won't see the encyclopedia until well after the 7th movie comes out; and the movie won't be out until summer 2010.

She already had the info for the encyclopedia, it'll just take her awhile to organize and write it.

Another question for all of you Harry Potter experts!:goodvibes

In book 5 or 6 (I can't remember which one...) Petunia gets a howler when they want to kick Harry out and the howler says "Remember the last" Does anyone know what that means? I so wanted to know what that meant and hoped that book 7 would cover it. Any ideas?:confused3

It was Dumbledore reminding her of his last correspondence, before dropping a one year old Harry off. It explained a little bit later in the book that he had explained about the protection that came from his mother dying for him and that by staying with her (Petunia, who shares Lily's blood) he'd be protected. They've explained a couple times that while Harry is living on Privet Drive, he can't be found by Voldemort or Death Eaters. At one point they go so far as to say they could be standing directly in front of the house and not be able to find him. . .until he turns 17.

I think it was Order of the Phoenix that this came up (I just reread everything in the past few weeks and now they're all jumbled in my head again) and the howler came after Vernon was threatening to kick Harry out. Dumbledore was reminding Petunia that he had to call that place home to be protected until he's 17, which is why she stepped in.

The last movie will be out when I graduate high school. These books truly have made my childhood wonderful. I can't believe the movies will be out so soon.

I wonder what these books are. I tried looking it up and found nothing. I think that she should have done the encyclopedia before her other books so she can really conclude the series.

Having just finished re reading this book, I think the howler referred to the letter dumbledore left with harry when he dropped harry off as a baby. He has to stay in the house and call it home for the protection to work. If they were to kick him out, he would no longer be protected until his 17th bday.

I think also that petunia and dumbledore have some sort of understanding of each other since we come to find out that she wrote to him a while back wanting to go to that school. I think she has no choice but to allow harry to stay and side against her husband.

The series is concluded. The Encyclopedia is just something she's considering since so many people are curious about things that don't really have anything to do with the actual storylines in the books. It'll be a companion book for die hard fans who want to know every single detail, regardless of relevance to the story.

Since it's not necessary to have this to complete the series, she'll work on it on her own time and get it out when inspiration hits and she gets motivated to go through her notes.
