Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

It was prob. a 50-50 shot on Trelawney's part. What if Neville didn't have a Grandma? We'd have automatically figured she was a clueless nutter and would've ignored her further rantings, right!? Lucky guess? Maybe! But, I think we needed those predictions to "come true" so we wouldn't think the lady a total whacko. She had to have some credibility esp. if JKR wanted us to buy the prophecy.

Isn't that a possibility that she may have just known Neville by sight even if she didn't come down into the castle often? After all, the last name might have been fairly well-known considering what happened to his parents.

JunieJay -- you and I posted the same question at the same time!!! I think we have some sort of Harry Potter tie between us!!!!! Maybe we're like Trelawney? Or, maybe not b/c one of us would've know the other would post the same question. Or, maybe we are like Trelawney if she's more fraud that right on!

Anyway ... great minds think alike, eh?

Even creepier ... we're 100 posts different from each other!!!!

You're a teacher. You've heard a student's name before. You have an incoming class of 30 students and we'll guess that half are male. What are your chances of guessing the right student based on knowing their last name? One in 15, right?! Could you pick out Harry Potter? Sure -- look for the scar on his head. So now you're down to 14 kids to choose from. Redheaded Weasley's who you've had in the past -- you could prob. dedcue that the kid named Ronald Weasley is the redhead in the class. What if there are two redheads in the class? Now you're down to 13 kids. Neville Longbottom? How would you pick him out? You have a 1:13 chance, esp. since Neville didn't have any other siblings coming through Hogwarts who she could determine by looks.

I don't know. When she called on him, she didn't say "You, Neville Longbottom" - she said "You boy". If she knew who he was, wouldn't she have called him by his first name that first day?!

I'll admit, I was crying so hard through the last few chapters that I could barely see the words on the pages. I had to re-read stuff a few times. And I BAWLED when I read the part where Fred Weasley died, and become even MORE upset when Tonks and Lupin died. It was so heartbreaking, Lupin was one of my favorite characters. Unfortunately, I had a feeling he wouldn't make it through. But I didn't think he would marry Tonks and that they'd have a baby only for BOTH of them to die in the end. But even though it broke my heart I can see why JKR killed them. I just can't imagine what it was like for George though, knowing his twin was gone :(

But overall, it was the strongest and most emotional book of the series. How could it not? I was extremely pleased with the ending and am so glad JKR gave us an epilogue that showed us what happened to our favorite trio. Everything turned out for the best and at the end of the day, good triumphed over evil just like I knew it would. Best of all, the boy who lived and suffered finally got his happy ending. Can't ask for much more than that :)

i agree....i too bawled my eyes out when Fred died. Other than Ron, he is my fav Weasley, then even harder when I saw that Lupin and Tonks died. I felt so sorry for the baby!! But, I figured he was raised by her mother so it was okay. I had questions at the end about what happened to George, I mean, did he just go on with the shop without his brother, did he get married, what??? What did they all do for a living? What happened to Luna? Why did Harry not name a kid after Sirius? I did find out what they did for a living during a NBC special the other night. She said that Harry and Ron were Aurors in the ministry (possibly heading this department) and that Hermione was also in the ministry (but I could not understand what department she said). But, that's it. Maybe she'll write a book with the answers to everyone's questions.

I really enjoyed the book!! I am glad that Snape was capable of love and that he had loved Lily and Harry the entire time and to know that he was not entirely evil. I feel that I understand some characters more now than I did.

Victoire would be Bill and Fleur's daughter to be the kids' cousin, correct???(Harry and Ginny's niece)

Best book ever! Best book series EVER. JK Rowling is amazing!

JK Rowling did state that Victoire is Bill and Fleur's daughter in her interview on NBC this week. I know, when I read it, I was really confused (she could have been Charlie's, George's, Percy's, or Bill's).

head back a couple of posts on this thread and read Captain Brains copy of the chat transcripts with JKR, many of those questions are answered.

I like the part where she says what Dudley saw when the Dementors attacked was a true look at his own personality, and that is what led to his character growth.

I'm so sad that these books are over. :(

What was your question?

What was your question?

Wow - you two are really in sync! Maybe you are the female versions of the Weasley twins! :goodvibes

Anyway, here's the question:

If Dumbledore has had the Elder Wand throughout the HP series, why didn't he defeat Voldemort when they were battling at the MoM at the end of OotP?

My guess is he knew that he could not until all the Horacuxes (sp?) was gone, including the one in Harry.

Yes, I figured that was why he didn't KILL Voldemort, but why couldn't he disarm him and then put him in Azkaban or something?

I don't have my book here, but I think Voldemort made some comment about that spell not working again. After reading the last book, I took that as a reference to Grindelwald and how Dumbledore had captured him and put him in the wizarding prison in Germany. So he was trying to capture him, just was unsuccessful.

I know...I'm wondering *why* he was unsucessful at capturing Voldemort, since he (DD) had the wand to end all wands.

I'd also like to know:

1. Why Harry's wand acted of it's own accord in the beginning (when it shot the gold sparks and defended Harry) - I've read the replies, but I still don't understand why it did that. I'm rereading DH now, so maybe I'll pick it up the second time around.

2. Is little James's middle name Sirius?

3. What are the significance of Ron & Hermione's children's names? I've read the speculation, but I'd like to hear it from the "horse's mouth"!

4. Was Lavender Brown actually bitten by Fenrir? The way it's worded in the book, it's hard to tell if Fenrir was *going* to bite her when Hermione stopped him, or if he had already succeeded.

5. Who did George marry? Who did Draco marry? (I hope not Pansy, I hope she's at the bottom of the lake.)

6. What's Charlie up to? The Patil twins? Cho? Lee? Dean? What about scaredy cat Zacharias Smith, who was last seen knocking first-years out of the way so he could escape Hogwarts before the fighting started?

7. What exactly did Aberforth do to that goat?

8. Did Olivander go back to making wands, or is someone else the new "It" Wandmaker?

9. Why didn't Madam Maxime attend Fleur & Bill's wedding?

10. Why did Voldemort think that no one would find his Horcrux in the Room of Requirement, when clearly, countless people had found it in the past? I thought maybe all those objects were just things that other students had misplaced and they just ended up in the RoR, but in a couple of places, she alludes to students actually hiding things there. So why did Voldemort think it was so secret?

11. Were the spiders who carried Hagrid away trying to save him but were thwarted, or were they bringing him to Voldemort?

12. Where's Mundungus? I hope in jail somewhere.

13. What happened to the house on Grimmauld Place? What about Kreacher?

Anyway, those are some of the things I'd like to ask the great JKR should I ever meet her. Of course, I'm sure that if I *did* ever meet her, all I'd be able to do is :worship: :worship: :worship: !

I love the way she answered everyone's questions with little details, such as when someone asked about the stone, instead of saying "Oh, it was just lost forever in the forest" she told how a centaur's hoof had mashed it in the ground on the way to battle.

Here's one that someone will probably be able to answer easily:

What are "CVs"? In the beginning of the book, Uncle Vernon mentions something like "If I'd even seen any CVs..."

CVs are "Curriculum Vitaes" (sp)...a fancy word for resume. I think that's what she meant with that abbreviation.

Do you think our wands share a core? :scared1:

3. What are the significance of Ron & Hermione's children's names? I've read the speculation, but I'd like to hear it from the "horse's mouth"!

I'm going to say Rose is a feminine form of Rom and Hugo a masculine form of Hermoine.

I still want to know how Dumbledore was able to beat Grindelwald in their duel, since Grindelwald had the Elder Wand, which is unbeatable.:confused3

I thought the reason he was able to beat him was because Grindewald stole the wand from Gregorovitch, rather than won it fair and square, hence the wand never really "belonged" to him.

OK, here's another one:

How did Snape get sorted into Slytherin? I thought Slytherin only took purebloods - after all, their motto is "Toujours pur" - Always pure.

Snape is a half-blood.

Oh wow! That transcript was fantastic!! Thank you so much for posting it!
I was reminded of a mom telling her children a story, then being subjected to endless queries of 'and then what happened? And THEN what happened?' :rotfl2:

Love that she told us who killed Lupin and Tonks. It's nice to have someone to blame.

I think it's great that Teddy is an Metamorphmagus like his mom!

And I actually teared up when I read George's son is named Fred. I totally expected it, but it was so nice to see it confirmed.

I love JK Rowling!

Snape is a half-blood.

And so is Voldemort- he was in Slytherin, too.
