Hi there

Does anyone know if girls can get their hair done in an updo/bun with colours/pixie dust etc without having to have a haircut? If so, would I need to book it and how much does it cost?

Thank you

Hannah

That would be at BBB, not Harmony

Well I originally thought that, but then I read someone's post about how their daughter had it done and it was definitely at the Harmony Barber Shop and it was something like $14 - so definitely not BBB! It was a little while ago now so was just wondering if it was still possible ....

I've seen some posts on this message board about the Ivy Trellis Salon at the Grand Floridian. Unlike BBB, they are real stylists and people have reported the styles being much more comfortable for the girls than the horribly tight buns they put in at BBB. I'm not planning on having more kids, so I won't ever have a little girl, but if I did, that's where I would take her!

I have to say, BBB saved me! My hair elastic snapped just as I was walking up to the podium at CRT. I thought I had an extra, but then I remembered I had used it before going on EE the day before, and I left it on the vanity back in the room. Rats. I knew BBB had them, so I went over to see if I could buy one - not only did they refuse any payment, one of the FGITs had me sit down & restyled my hair for me within a few minutes. What they might lack in talent - not that I can say, since my hair really did look nice when I walked out, and it was not in a little girl style - they certainly make up for in kindness (and pixie dust).

I'm not sure how much it costs but they'll definitely "style" and pixie dust. They are all licensed cosmetologist. They may not do a bun but they use to do colored hair gel and stripes for an additional $5 so it was like 20 in total. You can always call and ask.

They are all licensed cosmetologist.

Is that a new requirement? I've seen threads here and read information elsewhere indicating that they are not, and that's why there is such a severe limitation on the services they can provide.

My daughter had her first haircut at Harmony in October (but she was almost five). The barber put her hair in a ponytail with glitter but specifically told me that they aren't allowed to do an actual "up-do." I didn't ask about colors.

Next on our agenda was lunch at CRT, and my daughter still felt very special and pretty in her "fancy" ponytail.

Straight from the Disney website. I don't think they would have been able to legally operate it in the state and charge for the hair cuts if they weren't in the first place.

All Harmony Barber Shop stylists are state-licensed cosmetologists. Guests can select from the following options:

My First Haircut package $25
Child's haircut (9 and under) $18
Adult haircut $19
Prices and services offered are subject to change.

Ah, I was thinking BBB. I didn't know that the Harmony Barbershop did buns and gel and stuff like that.

I don't know if they'll do a bun but they did gel for awhile. Some reports were that the gel went away only because their supplier stopped carrying it not because they couldn't. Now their glitter is crazy. It is very very thick glitter and held on with glue. My friend got glitter bombed after his hair cut and our shower at the hotel had glitter for days. No matter how much he washed his hair he was still pulling glitter out haha.

clarify the "glue" is clear hair gel but it sticks like glue.

I don't see anything on that link that mentions an updo. Glitter yes, but not the updo

In the defense of those buns, they LOOK way more tight than they are. DGD has gotten it twice and it's the smoothing technique they do that makes it appear taught. I guess some may pull it too tight but it's not the norm.
By tight I mean so tight their eyes look strange. This has not happened at BBB when we've gone

When my daughter got her bangs trimmed last year at Harmony, I asked if they could pull it back or braid it. They specifically said they could not do anything that was "offered elsewhere on property" but they could do two pony tails, so that is what we did and she loved it. I would be surprised if they would be able to put it into a bun, but they can style it.

The salon @ the Grand Floridian will do styles, I can't think of the name of it, I watched one on youtube and it came out MUCH nicer than BBB. I am sorry, I just cannot understand the hairstyles at BBB, they are like punk rocker princess. The one at GF did 3 French braids, one down middle, 2 on sides then brought them back into a bun, it came out nice and looked more "royal princess" to me.

Ivy Trellis, I believe, is the name of that salon.

They take walk ups and same day reservations if there is availability. I would actually recommend asking the day you go. My son was almost 14 when we were at Magic Kingdom and he had been complaining that he should have gotten his hair cut before we went. He went off on his own in the park and while my DH and I were standing in a line I got a text with a selfie he had taken showing off his freshly cut hair. He suddenly remembered there was a barber there and on a whim checked to see if they would give him just a regular cut without the confetti, etc. They took him in right away and he thought it was the best hair cut he ever gotten! I'm sure they would be willing to do anything reasonable if they have availability.
