I've love to hear from the DVC veterans on the 5-10 hardest (or impossible?) DVC times/locations to book if you had to wait to 7 months to book them. Please exclude Grand Villas, HHI, and VB. Thank you!

worst is AKV-concierge. it's a tough one for non-AKV owners to book.

after that i'd guess the BWV-standard view rooms and then the AKV-value rooms.

VWL is difficult to book for december at 7 months. BCV and BWV are tough to get at 7 mos during food&wine at epcot.

due to their smaller size, VWL and BCV can be difficult to book at 7 months anytime during the year.

not sure where BLT (especially MK view) will fall on the difficulty chart over time. we'll see.

(and depending on the economy, this year and the next may not be typical.)

but while anything can happen...if you wait much longer than the 7 month window to book, you'd probably better learn to love the larger DVC resorts like OKW and SSR.

It's going to be the same list as the 11 months list would be.
  • AKV concierge
  • BCV 2 queen dedicated 2 BR
  • BWV standard and BW view
  • BLT MK view
  • AKV value (long term)
  • VWL anything certain times of the year
It's just that it'll be so much more difficult at 7 months than at 11 months but there will still be success stories. Time of year is likely more important than many of these options. Buy where you won't mind staying every visit in case you can't get anything else.

Other than what's been mentioned, I've heard that OKW GV are difficult to book unless you own there. I also think that THV will be difficult to book, unless you own at SSR.

What about 2BR lock-offs at BWV and BCV at 7 mos ? Is it just the dedicated 2 BRs that are so hard to come by ?

BCV is a tough resort due in part to it's small size and in part to demand. 1 BR are the easiest at most resorts. Of the 2 BR, the L/O and dedicated without 2 queens are the easier options.

Thanks Dean.

OP--Great question to ask. Never even thought of that.

Thanks for the responses too.

Just booked a 2BD dedicated at BCV (queen with sofabed) for Sept 27 - Oct 02 - first week of F & W. I thought it would be hard but no problem. I'm about 7 months out (actually a week later than 7 mo window opened)

Is a 2 bedroom BW view impossible at 7 months out the week after Thanksgiving? We would really like that to happen some day.

I think everything is nearly impossible at 7 months between Thanksgiving and the middle of December. That's the lowest points cost of the year, DVC membership meeting, holiday decorations, special holiday events...lots of reasons. For that period, you really need to be on the phone the moment MS opens on the first day of your 11-month window.

Also, a Grand Villa anywhere is going to be next to impossible. There just aren't many of them, so you need to call early in the 11-month window.

But...as Dean said, there will be occasional success stories.

As a general rule, BCs at VB are also very hard to get inside 7 months.

We were able to get the Thursday before Thanksgiving checking out on Thanksgiving Day at SSR in a 2 br. this past Nov. We booked in late Sept.

I have just managed to book both studio BWV boardwalk view & a studio concierge at AKV at the 7 month date. So although it may be difficult to get certain resorts at 7 months never say never it's always worth a try.
Good luck everyone:)

I'd say AKV Concierge would be hardest. I called a day into our 11 month window to try to get concierge for this coming June and none were available. (We waitlisted for awhile, but decided to keep our value studio to save on points.)

My biggest worry will be Grand Villas - even at the 11 month mark! We haven't done a GV yet, but plan to in a couple years for a big trip with extended family - and I'm already stressing about it!

OT: I'm also a "Jen G." so it's weird to see some one posting as that!
