I am looking to buy the new Disney character encyclopedia when it comes out in June for our son to get character autographs during our first trip in September. Do you prefer the hard cover or soft cover for this? And why? Is the hard cover too big and heavy to carry around the parks? Is the soft cover too flimsy for wear and tear of getting it in and out when needed?

I would vote for soft cover. We took ours to Staples and had them cut off the binding, laminate the cover, and put the whole thing back together with a spiral binding. That allowed us to open the book flat to a single page, which made it MUCH easier for characters to hold and sign. I would think it could be difficult for Mickey to hold the hard cover book open and sign.

I carried two (and yes, they did get heavy by the end of the week! :rotfl2:) and some clickable Sharpies in a large ziplock in my backpack. That way, the markers were always with the books, and I knew they would be protected if the backpack got wet.

I'm glad to hear a new version is finally coming out! We had to add some pages that I printed from the Creative Disigns board for the newer characters.
