Hard Selling on the Phone

Just booked my 13 th trip. As you can imagine I knew exactly what I wanted to book.
The Cm on the phone really kept putting the hard sell on me booking Eurostar with them. I didn't as I know I can get it much cheaper booing direct. He basically told me if I didn't book now I would have trouble getting tickets. My holiday is for late November early December 2014!
He also tried to pressurise me into booking a Plaza room instead of a standard room at the New York I declined but apparently it's what everyone wants and if I change my mind they will probably be sold out.
Do these guys get commission? He knew I was definately booking a trip and how many times I have been so really didn't need his advice.
 
I used to work the DLP reservations centre. When I was there you didn't get any commission but there were targets set to sell x amount of "extra magic" items such as room upgrades, character meals etc...
 
They are probably prompted to sell extras and upgrades and follow a script which can't be deviated from

Things are changing in the house of the Mouse. Disney need every penny they can get at the moment due to the problems with the NextGen project. I'd be tempted to call DLP direct in France in the future to book to avoid the US call center.

This must be at new tactic to increase their commission revenue. When I booked our October trip a few weeks ago I was not asked any up-sell questions.

I understand they would have targets but when I said no, he continued to try to persuade me. If I was a newbie I probably would have been bullied into what he wanted. It was the downright lies that annoyed me, like if I didn't book Eurostar for next Nov/Dec now then it would be sold out. These dates are not even available direct with Eurostar yet and so long as I buy the day they come out I should be able to get them much cheaper than with Disney.
Also he basically implied no one would ever choose to stay in a standard room at the New York Hotel, everybody want Plaza and only choose standard if lakeside are sold out which happens really quickly. I have stayed in both plaza and standard before. Yes lakeside rooms are very nice we actually were upgraded free of charge thus they obviously had not sold out. I don't think I would pay another £150 for it though considering we will hardly be in the room.
 
Whats NextGen?


It's an IT project at WDW, that uses RFID technology and includes MyMagic+, Next Gen and the Magic Band. More info about it can be found on the Disney and More blog article 'The Big Mistake'. There is another good one over on Mice Chat 'My Magiic Bu$t' as well.

The plan is that the MagicBands will replace park tickets, fast passes, create virtual waiting lines and you will be able to charge items to your room with the band.

It has already cost Walt Disney Parks and Resorts $1 bilion and it's going to cost a lot more to get it working. And it is the reason why all future WDI projects are on hold at all Disney Parks except for Tokyo and Shanghai Disneyland as they are not owned by Disney.
