I would like your opinion.. I had booked a 4 night stay at the Royal Pacific, but then my husband and kids (10 and 13) wanted me to check into the Hard rock. Well they have our dates available; however, for about $150 more. Is it worth it? Besides atmosphere are ther any different perks?

The one thing that stands out to me for you would be that HRH has a pool slide and RPR does not. With the ages of your kids, that might make a big difference. You are allowed to pool hop but it isn't really convenient.

I don't think the perks are much different other than the Hardrock is closer to the studios side and like damo said you can pool hop cause they encourage hotel guests to pool hop

it's not worth it for another $150 a night, plus tax. if that $150 plus tax is for the amount over the rph for the total stay, still not worth it.

Also RPR has a kids water play area at the pool and the pool I think is the largest of the three resorts.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the opinions. Subsequent to the post I researched the Universal site and it looks like I will save a bit more with the SS rate compared to AAA.. wierd huh?

Is there a big difference in the standard room size at Hard Rock versus Royal Pacific Hotel? It looks like the Hard Rock rooms are larger. Is it a noticeable difference?

I also wanted to know about the "feel" for each place. Our kids are 9 and 12 and not into guitar hero, and not really into rock music yet either. We want a place with a fun pool, luxurious surroundings, which is not too noisy and has a friendly staff. Our travel agent said to stay at Royal Pacific as Hard Rock Hotel is geared more to college age and young adults in their 20s and is much louder than Royal Pacific. Is this true?

It depends on what you are looking for...we have stayed at both hotels and had a blast at each one...If you like The South Seas theme(which I love) than go with RP...if you think your children would like the Rock theme go with HR...also remember if you stay at a Universal Resort Hotel than you are allowed to Pool Hop at any of the three hotels...Portifino also has a very nice pool and slide....have fun!

We always stay at RPR because it's quiet and relaxing. HRR we sometimes pool hop there for a few hours and have lunch poolside, but to stay there is not our style. PBH from what I heard is more romantic but have notbeen there to check it out yet, this summer stay we will visit for dinner but will stay at RPR.

Yes at RPR the room are smaller (family of 3 sometimes 4) but has never been uncomfortable. We don't spend slot of time in the room since there is plenty of other places to relax around the resort.

When you say RPR has a kids water play area at the pool, what kind of kids water play area? For what age range?
TIA

Here are some pictures. The thing on the top fills with water and then dumps and there are water canons all around.
