I have a decision to make. My wife and I are going down to go to the Food and Wine festival. We are only staying 2 nights. The original plan was to drive down on Friday (about 8 hour drive) spend what little of the day left at DTD and just relax so we could spend all day Saturday at Epcot and drive home on Sunday. Well we are flying now, getting in around 10 am. Do we add an extra day to our park tickets to enjoy another park then DTD? Or should we stick to the original plan. Really torn. We are heading back with the kids in about 6 weeks.

Sorry probably posted this in the wrong section.

Well if you get to the resort and your room is not ready, you will have to go somewhere. You could just do DTD, maybe the balloon ride there, have lunch, shop, then head back to the resort to relax. I would be very happy with that. If you want to do a park, is the Halloween party that night. Maybe you could get a ticket for that. with that you could be there from 4 to 12. without kids you could get a lot done.

For me, if I was getting there that early I wouldn't be able to help myself - I would have to go to one of the parks. I would be too excited to try and "waste" time at DTD or the resort especially on the first day. But then I know that I won't be back any time soon either. You will be back again soon so that might make a difference as to whether you want to spend the extra money for another day on your tickets.

The Food & Wine festival is usually a mad house on the weekends. I'd get the extra ticket and head there Friday. Then you can get a head start before dealing with the massive crowds on Saturday.

You could do some resort touring. Take the monorail to the 7 Seas Lagoon resorts. Take a boat over to WL, or take the boats around Boardwalk. From DTD you can take a boat over to POFQ and POR. All of this is if you really don't want the expense of another park day. However, if it was me, I'd really try to have 2 park days!

Is your second trip long enough that it would make sense to upgrade to APs? Are you planning a third trip within a year?

Have you priced out tickets with the no expiration option? Like, say your next trip is 5 days. What's the difference between 7 days no expiration, two separate tickets at 5 days + 1 or 2 days, and APs?

Not sure how long you are going with the kids, but have you considered an annual pass for you and your wife. You would have access to AP discounts and free parking ($14/day value) if you do not stay onsite. If you stay onsite, parking is already free. It may be a cheaper option to get an AP rather than getting a 2 day ticket and then another multi-day ticket. For example, a 2-day park hopper and a 7 day park hopper together cost $550 (230+320). An annual pass, which includes park hopping costs $531. You may even be able to fit in another kid-free trip within the next year! If you already have a ticket, you can upgrade it to an AP.
