Enjoy those 5 and a half hours!! I'd be seriously depressed if I lived there.

The day you start gaining daylight in Alaska is the best day! :thumbsup2 I'm surprised you're getting that much daylight. It always seemed like 1-2 hours to me. :rotfl:

Happy Solstice to you!
Have a drink. :dance3:

OH how I remember those days. Lived in Anchorage (actually, Elmendorf, or wherever the AF sent us) in the early 90s. Didn't mind the darkness so much, especially when it was really cold & everything looked like it was covered in crystals. BUT, enjoyed those long summer days much, much more.

Happy Solstice!

sk8ingmom, our DS and DDIL live not too far from you. I am wondering how much snow you have on the ground and did you get a bunch yesterday?

We got BUNCHES of snow yesterday! 5-7 inches. More coming today!

I have a window in my office, so the short days don't bother me too much. Everything outside is white, so it appears brighter than it is out there.
It will be good to add a few minutes of daylight tomorrow.

kmebee - we were in Kodiak in the early '90s!

Shouldn't it be "merry" solstice? I thought everyone on here agreed we were going to start trying to utilize the word "merry" more. Its such a neglected word, usually only coming out this time of year.

:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: MERRY SOLSTICE!!!!!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

you are absolutely correct - we did say that, didn't we.....merry, merry, merry!

SHEEESH!
Actually, I thought "Happy" would be more appropriate since solstice is really a pagan holiday. From what I gather from the pulic debates here and elsewhere (that I have stayed WAY out of...), only a pagan would use the term "happy" as in "happy holidays."

It doesn't matter. They say "Happy Christmas" in England, instead of "Merry Christmas"--it's the same meaning, really. Over there, though, "merry" can mean drunk/tipsy.
