I just wanted to wish everyone a HAPPY SHARK WEEK!

My daughter (who is eight) and I just LOVE Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. I watch as many of the shows as I can (and that I don't already have on the DVD) and I let her watch the more 'educational shows.' I don't want her terrified to swim in the ocean, so she skips the more sensational shows about shark bites and that sort of thing. We look forward to it every summer. This summer my daughter is all about dolphins though, so she isn't quite as excited as she has been the past few years. Bummer. :)

Anyone else obsessed with Shark Week?

YES, more this year because while we were at Mrytle Beach I saw a shark fin close to shore! That and they have had sharks here in NJ at Seaside. I am thinking I will go to the beach this week!!

We are! DH is missing it because he is on his way to Germany on business. It's not the same watching it without him.

I've been hooked to it since probably 1990 (I think it started in the mid 80s, shortly after I was born)!

I am going to do the snorkel at Stuart Cove's next year. I was supposed to go last year, but had to cancel trip due to family illness.

I like watching Mythbusters when they have the Jaws special on and they are down in the Bahamas.

They just got done shooting over at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, NY, with Jacque Cousteau's (sp?) grandson.

I am * SOOO * excited. I have my nursing boards on Thursday morning, so I have it set on the DVR, and a bottle of wine already waiting for Thursday afternoon.

Love Shark Week ! :lovestruc

Hi shmoogrrrl,
Count me in is another person who really enjoys shark week. :thumbsup2 Looking forward to it! :yay:

My daughter is very excited, She will watch all week and then I will have to coax her back into the water. Why can't they have shark week in October!!!!

Shark Week is killing me this year. My DS11 asked me today if we could walk from the Beach Club to Hollywood Studios instead of taking the boat.....He finally told me the reason why he wants to walk is because he is affraid there may be sharks in Crescent Lake....:confused3 I think I may have to ban shark week.

I LOVE Shark Week!!!!

This year there have been too many sharks reported way too close to the 2 places we usually visit, Cape Cod and LBI, NJ. I can't tell you how happy I am we skipped those places this year, I would be bonkers because, of course, I keep watching shark stuff on TV.

PS, did anyone see the footage of the shark that swam right up to the shore in Seaside, NJ?:scared1: If you've never been there I can tell you it's crowded there this time of year:jumping1:, and the authorities keep saying it's no biggie. I reminds me of Jaws.

Watched a few shows today and LOVED the commercials advertising Shark Week. Totally hilarious!

Those are brown sharks. They are not very aggressive at all. The only way someone would get bit would be if they got too close to them, scared them, or got in the way as it went after food. These sharks are also pretty small, only about 5 ft long.

wow...read the last sentence. That is exactly what I saw the day before this attack in Myrtle Beach!!
I was up at sunrise last Sunday (our last day at Myrtle Beach) when I saw small fish jumping out of the water. Then I saw a shark fin!! It was about 6:30 am and there was another family on the beach and we had to chase some teens out of the water~!

I am so glad that I am not the only nut about Shark week! My favorite are the Air Jaws shows. I love watching them shoot up into the air.

I admit that my love of Shark Week does make me nervous on the ocean. My
daughter really wants to swim with dolphins, which we could do on our Disney Cruise next year, but she is too small to go alone and so I need to overcome my fear and get in the water. :) I do get in the ocean when we are at the beach, so I think I can do it. :)

Stuart Cove's is the bomb!! We went on their shark snorkle trip a couple of years ago and had so much fun. I can't wait to go back (but dh says once was enough for him). Very exhilarating!
