Christmas Day was very strange, it was our first at home for three years, we did all the traditional things, pressies, lunch, telly, it felt wierd to be getting out last bits and pieces together while Dr Who was on, it was hard to believe that we were going on holiday tomorrow.

We were up at 5.30 on Boxing Day, and after coffee and showering, I checked the bag 52 times for passports, tickets, money, why oh why do I do that! I made us some turkey rolls for the journey and popped the little bottle of wine that I had received as part of my Secret Santa into the bag too - one has to be prepared.

My brother in law picked us up at 8.15 to take us to Cardiff to catch the National Express to Gatwick, we were at the station way too early and spent the time drinking coffee in Burger King. At 9.30 we boarded the coach and were soon on our way. We stopped at Newport, Chepstow and Heathrow (how huge is that airport) and arrived at Gatwick at 2.00pm.. I would definitely do this again, I am a very nervous car passenger and this took all the stress out of it for me. It was all very pleasant, a stop at the services, my i-pod and a turkey roll, what more could I want...

We were dropped at the South Terminal and made our way to Twilight check in which was done and dusted by 2.30. I then needed to call Clive of The Cumberland House Guest House to come pick us up, I was dreading this, I am not very bright and had given Clive lots of grief the week before as I couldn't quite get my head around the fact that it wasn't a problem to pick us up on Boxing Day!! His opening words were "managed to find a phone a phone then, and why aren't you blonde", he was so so funny and very dry.

We were welcomed at the Guest House by Carmel, who was wonderful, her and Clive are a treat, its clean, homely, and welcoming, I wouldn't stay anywhere else at Gatwick. After dumping our bags and a quick freshen up, we headed down the road to Ye Olde Six Bells where Ian had a guiness and I had my old mate Mr Grigio in front of a lovely open fire.

After managing to drag ourselves from the fire, we headed into Horley town centre to Weatherspoons, where several more Guinesses and Pinots were taken. Ian took a fancy to his glass, so of course I had to oblige, it is now tucked up in out owners locker. We left Weatherspoons and stopped at the local Spar type shop to get a bottle of wine for Clive and Carmel (yes, they were that welcoming), and some magazines for tomorrow, before heading to The Foresters for another drinkie. Dinner was at a lovely Chinese restaurant, chicken noodle soup for us both, chicken curry for me and chicken with black bean sauce for Ian, we shared a bottle of wine and a pot of chinese tea, it was delicious and we were both glad to see the restaurant reopened. They gave us a Chinese calendar which I then passed onto Carmel.

I was aware that I was slightly squiffy, which was very mortifying as our lovely hosts greeted us when we got back, and I was a bit of a chatterbox!

The room was lovely, the bed comfortable, and I fell asleep dreaming that this time tomorrow I would be in Kidani, it turned out to be later than I expected..

Sorry for the lack of pics, there are lots to come when we actually get there.

Snap I have to check my bag heaps of times too for the passports, tickets etc. I get rolled eyes when I check my bag first thing in the morning as though someone would sneak in at night and pinch them.

Am sure it was the heat of the fire that made you squiffy and not the Pinots:goodvibes
