When - 27th December 2009 - January 4th 2010
Where - Two Nights Kidani Savannah View Studio, Six Nights Saratoga Springs Studio
Who - The ususal suspects:
Ian DH 39 this is the year of a million fortieths as if I am allowed to forget it
Me Jules - 38 chief planner and the one who makes it happen, well its really Ians overtime that makes it happen but there you go.

The big day was finally here, we were up at about quarter to seven as Carmel was getting breakfast for us at seven o clock. I really expected continental style at that time of morning, so was suprised when we were given a full English, I am not a huge breakfast eater but this really was lovely, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, mushrooms, and a pot of beans, yes thats right a pot of beans. I like beans but I have huge issues when they touch other food, but these were served in a small glass pot, the perfect solution for me, Carmel explained she always does this as if people don't like or don't want the beans they can simply put the pot to one side. I vowed that from that day on my beans will always be in a pot - respect to Carmel. After breakfast we packed up our hand luggage, hugged out hostess goodbye and Clive had us back at South Teminal by about ten past eight.

We were due to depart at 11.15, we checked the board and were delayed to 1.15. Security was suprisingly quick (I should have known something was up then. We had a look round the Duty Free and got some cigarettes (those days are gone, I am now a non smoker - well for today anyway)!!!! and Ian got the new *********** aftershave. At the bookshop I got Eclipse and New Moon, it was buy two get one free so Ian had the new Andy McNab.

We were then stuck for what to do, so decided to head to the only place where it is socially acceptable to consume alcohol at 9.15am the airport Weatherspoons. Ian got a guiness for him and a white wine with soda for me and we settled down to wait. At about quarter past ten I couldn't resist checking the board again, and it was telling us to go to the gate, it seemed ridiculously early but we decided to do as it said. Good job that we did, as we approached the gate there was a huge queue to get in. They were holding three US flights outside of the gates, bodysearching everyone and checking all hand luggage before allowing anyone through. I think we joined the queue at about 10.35 and got through into the gate at around 12.15, there was still a huge line behind us, so it was obvious that we were going nowhere at 1.15.

At around 1.15 they started boarding, and we took off some time after two but I really can't remember what time it was. I always try to book the seats at the back of the plane where it goes to two seats, but I missed them this year and we were on a row of four. Ian was seriously unimpressed with this set up (probably not helped by the fact that he was likely wanting a cigarette badly by this points) :lmao:he whinged like a small boy, the man next to him was taking too much room whilst reading his paper, he took too much room eating his meal, all was definitely not right in Ians world!! We were served drinks shortly after boarding, a beer for Ian and vodka and lemonade for me - where did the pretzels go!! Shortly after that it was time fo dinner, or what was left for dinner, they had virtually run out of everything by the time they got to us, the cabin crew were having to use the leftover meals from Premium Economy, so we went with the chilli prawns and rice, bad decision!! I didn't really watch any of the films, I read most of the way, Ian watched Harry Potter and another which he doesn't remember - it must have been thrilling. They anounced that tea would be served early as for the last hour everyone was to remain in their seats, with all hand luggage stowed, and the Sky Map would be turned off.. Tea was better than dinner, coronation chicken sandwich which was at least edible. The descent into Orlando seemed to take forever, but at last we were there, the good thing about our seats was that we were two of the first off the plane.

Immigration was quite quick and painless, we collected our suitcases and took them on the monorail with us to collect the car. We were allocated some sort of red thing, it looked quite nice, we only noticed later that it looked like it had been kicked around the carpark, it looked like something from CSI with lots of reported stickers on it!!

We were soon on our way and before long were on the Osceola Parkway and driving under the beloved arch, where I indulged in much whooping. We got to Kidani easily and I was soon having my first view of our "home" for two nights. I must admit to being slightly underwhelmed by the lobby when we checked in, its very small. We were allocated a room on the second floor, and after checking with bell services that my purple box had been delivered, we set off to the underground parking area, parked up in Timon and got the elevator to the second floor. The place seriously has long corridors, the Boardwalk has nothing on it :rotfl2:

Our room was lovely, I was slightly alarmed by the height of the bed, being vertically challenged it was nearly as high as me!!!

It was far too dark to see any animals from the balcony and we had long since missed our ADR at Sanaa, so we decided to have a quick wash and change and go for drinkies at the Sanaa bar..

We headed back down the loooooooooooooong corridor and down the stairs to the bar, stopping on the way to admire the Christmas Tree

It really is a lovely little bar, perfect for chilling out, and the lady serving us was lovely, she moaned all night though because someone had ordered six mojitos from room service! I asked Ian to get me a suprise, and he got me my first rita off the trip - result, while he had a bud..

We sat and chilled and drank and then decided to get something from the menu, we opted for the Indian Style Bread Sevice, Naan, Paneer Paratha and Paratha served with Garlic Pickle, Tamarind Chutney and Mango Pickle. It was lovely, the breads were beautifully fresh..

At about twenty to twelve we made our way to our room, and our purple friend had been delivered

This was great news as my jammies were in there :rotfl2:

It was then time to pole vault onto the bed for lights out and a bit of telly, I was horrified to discover that the True Movie Channel is gone, it took me a long time to sleep after such trauma !!

I will leave you with a couple more pics of the room

i agree with you about the height of those beds hun

and im intrigued by exactly WHAT brand of aftershave ian got :rotfl2:

Babe, I am loving this trip report - it's like I can hear you talking to me...

I know exactly what you mean about the beds!!! :lmao: I was quite used to it tho' as my bed at home is high off the floor plus mattress and two feather beds on top - I got the Princess and the Pea thing going on.. princess:

Love your top BTW...

And what was Ian's censored aftershave?????? Or is it one of your quiz questions...? ;)

I love the AKV rooms and the high bed:)

Jules you do make me laugh with your descriptions.

Nice to see you got into the holiday spirit at 9.15am - why waste any time hey?

Lovely room at Kidani - I love the decor, can't believe it has even longer corridors than BWV

Can't wait to read more

Tam

Glad you got there!

We were then stuck for what to do, so decided to head to the only place where it is socially acceptable to consume alcohol at 9.15am the airport Weatherspoons.

You know what? It was 5 o'clock somewhere! Just as well you managed to get that drink to fortify you for the full security search and delayed departure.

I'm enjoying your report, Jules, and especially appreciate the hotel photos as AKL and its Villas are unfamiliar territory to me. I've never gotten past the lobby, Jiko and the nice gift shop. Thanks for giving me something lively to read at lunch. Susan

Great start, I know what you mean about the height of those beds :)

Loving your report Jules, I was also very sad to find the true movie channel was gone, until I found a similar one on virgin media at home!!

I Love the true movie channel!! Great first day :thumbsup2 looking forward to the rest :)

So many things in this made me laugh, not good when your having a sneaky read in work:rotfl2:, Im ready for more, where is day 2??;)

You could really have done without that sort of delay. Not so bad if it had been your usual 3 weeker, but arriving that late and missing your Sanaa ADR must have been really annoying. Still, I suppose the delay could have been much worse given the events of the previous day and the inevitable increase in security. And from everything I've seen of the Sanaa bar, it looks like a great place to spend a few hours.

Drinking at 9.15am?? I am disgusted Jules!

Surely you could've been on it MUCH earlier than that:confused3:confused3

:woohoo: a TR update - i was wondering who would get one posted soon & i love reading yours :thumbsup2

lovely pics & i'm with you on the 'it's 5 o'clock somewhere' pre-flight drinks :cheer2:

waiting for day two now:rolleyes1

Lovely room. Shame about having to pole vault onto the beds. :rotfl:

Looking forward to reading the rest. :)

Wow that was a long day. What a pain you missed your ADR but it sounds as though you had some yummy food anyway and of course some delicious drinks :rotfl:
