There's a new series that my kid just has to have. Can't generally finish an entire Happy Meal, so I've asked about just getting the toy without the meal. I guess it's up to the franchisee to set the price. One wanted 69 cents. Another wanted over $2 so I just got the meal anyways. San Francisco (just the city and not neighboring communities) has a law that says toys can't be included with unhealthy food, so the local franchises just sell them for 10 cents.

McDonald's isn't healthy food?

Hate the 'food police'!! I have been well capable of what to feed my children in the past, and dh & I now. An occasional fast food will not kill us - everything in moderation!

I'm baffled that anyone thinks it's healthy. High in sodium and fat. Heavily processed. Sure, it's ok to have it every now and again (and we do). But, I'm not under any illusions that it's "healthy."

The SF law is so dumb. We are also an "in moderation" fast food family. & when we do buy our kid a Happy Meal, we order the healthy sides instead of fries (apples & yogurt). Personally, I think some fast food places have done a great job offering healthy options in their kids meals over the years. I think mandating healthy choices to be offered in these meals is a great idea. Eliminating the toy is dumb & pointless.

They have always done this. I know when my kids were little you could buy the toys without the meals, we never did, but I had a friend who was really into them and would buy them all the time as collectables

There was a series I wanted when I was in college. I remember I could typically buy one without a Happy Meal. However, I was really thinking about the price difference between two locations. It was literally three times as much, even though the Happy Meals were around the same price.

my kid are teens now, but when they were little McD's was always expensive for their toys. almost as much as the meal, but my kids didn't eat much, so they could split one meal...but they weren't sharing toys LOL. Burger King was always cheap, around .99 cents.

We went to San Francisco, and did stop by one today. No Happy Meals per se, but this one did sell the toys separately for $2. Didn't seem like much of a deal, and I almost acquiesced. However, they were completely out. I'm guessing they don't order as many. Also, this one had the "McPick" menu at two for $2.50 instead of $2.
