So my brain in it's infinite wisdom has decided that it would be a good idea to aim to run the Happy Haunted 5K in October when we are in Florida.

I need a motivation to keep getting fit and losing some weight, and I think this is it!

Could somebody please advise me as to when the sign ups start?

If it isn't for a few months I will do some test runs so I am comfortable with the pacing.

Has anybody here run it in the past? how was it? Anybody start as a complete non runner?

Thanks in advance, I'm off to order some trainers while it still seems a good idea :scared:

Hello Vicky

Here's a link to the RunDisney website http://www.rundisney.com/

This give all the details of the race and suggests training schedules. I wanted to do the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 miler but unfortunately we land the day before it's run and I didn't think that gave us enough time to acclimatise.

Good luck with your training ... keep us up todate with how you're doing :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:goodvibes

Thanks I've been to the Rundisney site and got the training plan ready to go , I'm actually excited about it which I never thought I'd be about running!

Hi Vicky

I actually did the race in 2012 with my best friend and we both really enjoyed it! There were a mixture of abilities, people who ran it, people who walked most of it or people like us who half walked half run.

If you don't have your own transport and are staying onsite I would advise you try and stay in one of the host resorts. They provide buses to and from the expo before the event- which you have to go to to get your runner number etc. Also on the day of the event itself buses run from the host resorts to the race at WWOS and back, we left POFQ around 5.45am.

Another big tip I wished I had had time to do was running in the Florida heat more, it was right at the beginning of our trip so never got chance to practise. When we ran it they actually waited for the sun to rise before they would start us for safety reasons, and there are water stops on the course.

We both had a blast doing it and would do another RunDisney event if it co-incided with our trip. There are a few characters dotted around the course who will pose for pictures too! Any more questions feel free to ask :D

Hi there! I recently did the Jingle Jungle 5k in WDW and it was one of the best races I have ever taken part in.

I would train to be able to run the 5k in around 35/40mins (roughly 11/12mins per mile) this allows you some wiggle space if you are a bit slower on the day. Don't worry about being the fastest or the last over the line, so many people walked it this year that I think at points there were more walkers than runners!!

The expo the day before is a must (you have to pick up your race packet etc) and they sell the special edition Disney trainers which make a lovely take home!! I'd defo recommend going to the 'EXPO' side first then packet pick up as the expo gets super busy.

If you start your training now, you have lots and lots of time to get up to the 5k distance :-)

As another poster mentioned, get onto the run Disney page and they will update you on when places open up etc.

Mine was a very early morning (had to be at the race start for about 6am) and buses only leave from certain 'host' resorts so if you haven't booked accommodation yet, I'd perhaps wait until you know which resorts are hosts? We drove to AK for my 5k as the parking was open and my oh stayed in the car and slept, booked a Tusker house breakfast for 8:15 that morning so it was easy peasy! Not sure if the Happy Haunted is in the evening though or the morning.

Go for it!! It's great fun.

Hello I ran it this year. I loved it. We aren't runners but had a really good time and was one of the best days of our holiday.

I think we signed up about July I can't remember for sure though.

Thank you everyone , I have a new PTR about my training for the run below in my signature if anybody would like to follow my progress throughout the new year.

We are already booked for Saratoga springs, so I hope this is a host resort , it was listed under travel options on the runDisney website so hopefully , if not I will get a cab to ESPN WWOS.
