Night #1 - Happy Chanukah.
Lit the menorah.
Ate latkes & sufganiot.
Watched kids open gifts.
Any chance of this thread lasting the full 8 nights?
I think we're doing the latkes tonight. Then it's back to my diet.
OK, folks. I'm about to light two candles.
Anybody else light candles using olive oil?
In order to understand the significance of latkes on Hanukah, one must relax one's imagination a bit. (Same for understanding sufganiot). Latkes and sufganiot are cooked in oil. Back in 'the day', the lamp oil left after the destruction of the temple was only supposed to last 1 night, but it lasted 8! (long enough for more oil to be made) It's a miracle! Let's all clog our pores and arteries!
There's a lot more to the story, but that's the important bit.
HTH,
Hillary
PS - sufganiot are jelly doughnuts
I loves me some latkes and sufganiot, but only if I can make them at someone else's house. I hate the way the house stinks of onions and grease for the whole eight nights!
Happy Chanukah!
