I actually used the gypsy to design, layer, and cut a 4 layer paper piecing

It was so nice to be able to see what size to make the "shadow" layers and to see how many would fit on each piece of paper rather than guessing :)

Yay Cheryl!!!! I am really happy with my Gypsy!! I did have some problems at first, but after a stern talking to, that little devise has listened to me quite well!! LOL The fact that it is so mobile is great!!! Love it! What was also great was that I could sit in the living room with the fam, watch tv, design on the gypsy and cut when I was ready!!

Wish I could, but, it's a piece for the surprise swap. There wasn't a shadow layer feature so I had to make my own. I'm very pleased with it :)

I think I'll be using my gypsy for more than looking up images now ;)

Kinda--I put the second layer on top of the first and kept making it a little bigger until it looked like a shadow.

That's great to know! I'll have to try it out. Sometimes I just want a shadow on those fonts that don't have them, especially on Lyrical Letters and the Life's a Beach font. Off to play!

OK, so why oh why do I hate my Gypsy so much? Can someone give mine a talking to? Or do you think its operator error?

I NEED someone to give me a Gypsy lesson. The whole machine just makes no sense to me. I've had it a year and only turned it on twice - and I've never made anything with it.

Danielle--something that really helped me, when you have a screen open press the small round silver button on the right. One of the options is a question mark, press that and it opens a manual on the screen that tells you what the functions on that screen are. It made the gypsy a lot easier for me to use. I had no clue what any of the little icons were until I could have the screen open & look at the manual at the same time.

Thanks - I will have to try that. I was amazed that the thing didn't come with ANY instructions.

Can I weld letters together with the gypsy? That was the primary reason I bought it and can't figure it out. Guess I better get it out and play with it this weekend before I totally write the machine off. I guess it IS operator error. :rotfl2:

Danielle - yes you can weld letters and shapes together with your gypsy. I agree...it was a bit intimidating at first with no instructions!! But, the more you play, the more you find out and the easier it is! Now, I love it! I take it in the car and design...come home and plug it in...cut...saves me time!! I find that when I want to cut say a swap group, sitting at the computer and designing it takes the longest. So, if I can do that when I am on the go and normally would not be able to utilize my time...it's great!

Welding is really easy. At the top right tap on the Advanced tab. Over lap the letters or shapes you want to weld. Then tap on the little box that has a cirlce, star, and another shape. It will turn yellow. Then tap on the items you want to weld. Once they are welded they will show up in red on your mat. Hope that helps. It took me awhile to figure out what all the little icons were for since they are not the same in CDS.
